STEWARDSHIP: A WAY OF LIFE Sharing: Time Talent Treasure THE WORD OF THE LORD How many words of the Lord do we know? And how do these words influence our daily lives? If you are an oldie, you probably remember memorizing the Baltimore Catechism. Today s learning experiences are different. But the message cannot and does not change. Every time we attend a Mass, we hear the word of the Lord. But how long do these words stay with us? If we don t remember these words, we cannot live by them as Jesus wishes us to do. No one can know the Father except through Me. And the rest of the story goes.. A new Pastor arrived in the church community. And he was overwhelmed by all the work he found in front of him. So he delivered his first homily without his usual preparation. By the next Sunday he had found no time to prepare another homily. And so he repeated the homily from the first week. And so on the third Sunday, he repeated it again. Noticing this, several parishioners were very upset and made an appointment with the local Bishop. In the meeting, they told the story of this new Pastor who kept giving the same homily week after week. The Bishop then asked them, What was the Gospel about on these three weeks? No response. And what was the Pastor s homily about? No response. Sitting back in his chair, the Bishop suggested that maybe the Pastor ought to give his homily one more week. Opinions and judgements are easy to have. Most of us have heard these God words since we were very young. And oh how easy it is to make a comment or think an opinion on how these words should be delivered to us. Don t judge a book by its cover. How many of us have read THE BOOK? We need to listen, process, and love the words Jesus gave us. And then we should live them. And we should be grateful for the ability to hear, read, speak, any of our God given lessons with a focus that concentrates on the words and not all the distractions that we can fall victim too. Just focus briefly on the concept of not having a priest so readily available. Mass only once a month or two. We need the words of Lord constantly. Otherwise, we might really begin to believe that we don t need any help. We are capable of all our decisions. We can do it ourselves. We know all we need to know about life and how to live it.
