Feast of Corpus Christi 29 May 2016 I am the living bread that came down from heaven, says the Lord; whoever eats this bread will live forever. Contemplate the Bread of Angels Hymn for the Feast of Corpus Christi Contemplate the bread of angels Made the food for us who travel: Truly bread for all God s children, Cast it not out to the dogs. In old types it was prefigured: In the sacrifice of Isaac, In the paschal lamb s oblation, In the manna sent by God. Noble Shepherd, bread nutritious, Jesus, hear our cry for mercy. Feed us now and now protect us; Let us also see your goodness In that land of life and love. You, almighty and all-knowing, You who give this food to mortals, Let us be your guests at table With the saints, co-heirs of heaven; Let us all there celebrate. I vow to thee, my country, all earthly things above, Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love; The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test, That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best; The love that never falters, the love that pays the price, The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice. And there s another country, I ve heard of long ago, Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know; We may not count her armies, we may not see her King; Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering; And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase, And her ways are ways of gentleness, and all her paths are peace.* Cecil Spring Rice, 1908 * Proverbs 3:17 Remember the Fallen Memorial Day 2016
