FOCUS ON FAITH St. Aelred Catholic Community is the newest community of an organization created by Pope Benedict XVI to evangelize Protestants, especially Anglicans. This organization is called The Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter (OCSP) which was created in 2012. It was based on the encyclical Anglicanorum Coetibus, which recognizes the beauty and reverence in the Anglican heritage that caused so many to seek conversion and asks them to return it to its proper home in The Catholic Church. So yes, we are 100% Catholic! Our mission is to evangelize Protestants (especially Anglicans and related denominations) through that unique liturgical, spiritual, and pastoral heritage, which The Holy See gifted to us as our "Anglican Patrimony." While the celibacy requirement is still in effect for unmarried men seeking ordination in the OCSP, The Vatican allows married men who were formerly Anglican clergy to petition the Pope for a dispensation on a case by case basis. Gregory Tipton, a former Episcopal priest who converted to Catholicism last Easter, has been granted this dispensation by Pope Francis, and is studying for the Catholic Priesthood to lead St. Aelred. St. Aelred Catholic Community will be holding Mass in the Ordinariate Form on April 8th, Divine Mercy Sunday, at 3pm. It will be celebrated in the St. Joseph Chapel, by the Very Rev. Timothy Perkins, Vicar General of the Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter. Everyone is looking forward to working together to spread the fullness of the Catholic Faith in Athens! To learn more, check out their website at www.staelred.org or contact Gregory Tipton at SaintAelreds@gmail.com or 770-596- 1522.
