Fi h Sunday in Ordinary Time February 4, 2018 Most Reverend Edward K. Braxton Bishop of Belleville We, the people of St. Clare Catholic Parish, In the Diocese of Belleville, are called by God in baptism to be disciples of Jesus Christ. Centered in the Eucharist, and strengthened by the gifts of the Holy Spirit, we strive to live the Gospel and further the reign of God. We do this by creating a vibrant faith community, by actively promoting justice and evangelization, and by using our gifts in the service of God s people, to give God glory and reverence all of Creation. From Our Pastor... The weekend after Christmas a young child excitedly came up to me after Mass and handed me a baggie full of coins. He said with a huge smile on his face, Here you are! I want to give part of my birthday money to the poor. I was so inspired to hear those words coming from this very thoughtful child. I thanked him greatly and assured him that God would bless him abundantly for being so generous with his gifts. If only we all could keep such generous ideas in our minds. This weekend we embark on our annual Stewardship of Tithing commitment. The bible calls us to share a percentage of our income with the Church and the poor. Making a weekly or monthly commitment of a specific percentage of our income is still new for many Catholics, but in doing so it shows our gratitude to God for all we have been given. Giving to God off the top of our budget, and not what is left over, is a very spiritual exercise that brings many blessings to our life. Thanks to all of you who give faithfully to your parish so we can continue to do the good things we are doing and do even better things for God. Let us all make an extra effort at giving our very best to God. A special welcome to those who will be making a new weekly/monthly commitment for the first time! Please remember to bring your commitment card with you to Mass next weekend or mail into the office. God bless your generosity! Fr. Jim Deiters Recent Deaths: Angie Canavan, Wife of John, Mother of Cristina and Connor. May she rest in the peace and love of Christ.
