JUNE 2006 EL QUIRI PAGE 4 A NOTE FROM YOUR SPONSORSHIP CHAIRMAN ~ Let me introduce myself my name is Deb Hereld, and I am your Sponsorship Chairman for the GSAE Board of Directors. Let me explain a little about my duties. I work hand-in-hand with both the mens and womens registrars. After they begin the process of accepting applications, and filling up a walk, they let me know who the pilgrims are going to be. I send a letter to each sponsor of those pilgrims, detailing what responsibilities lie in the hands of the sponsors. They receive a sample request for agape letter to be sent to the family and friends of their pilgrims. Along with that information, each sponsor receives a Sponsor s Checklist, which reminds them of the commitments they are making as a sponsor. When the weekend does arrive, I assemble the Emmaus cross onto the purple lanyard, and write each pilgrim s name on their price tag and place them in the Chapel before Sponsor s Hour. This is an awesome job, because I start praying for the pilgrims from the time I receive the first name through the sponsor s letters through Chapel time placing the crosses right on through the weekend. I love to serve the Lord, and am enjoying being an active part of the Emmaus community again. After serving in a previous Board position years ago, and being on teams, being Lay Director, I sortof went into a dormant stage. Maybe close to that burn out you hear of in the Changing our World talk. BUT, I am back at it again, loving every minute of it, and grateful for the chance to serve Jesus, and this community. If you haven t heard already, we re having an Emmaus Celebration & Workshop September 16 th. One of the main topics that day will be re -education in sponsorship. It is a big responsibility folks and one we shouldn t take lightly. Part of my job over the next 2 years will be to help train, or re-train everyone to be a GREAT sponsor. You ll be hearing from me again in future newsletters. If you ever have a question regarding sponsorship, please don t hesitate to contact me. I m a phone call or e-mail away. Schnoopdog@earthlink.net or (937) 596-6077 after 5 p.m. In His Service, Deb Hereld HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WALK! Send off - Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 6:30 PM Candlelight - Saturday, June March 24, 2006 at 8:00 PM Closing - Sunday, June 25, 2006 at 4:30 PM

JUNE 2006 EL QUIRI PAGE 5 SPEAKING OF SPONSORSHIP The next step in the Journey to t he Road to Emmaus is sending an application to the registrar. That s where I come in! My name is Carleen Pettit, and I m from Sidney. I have been a part of the Sidney Community for over 10 years now having served previously on the Board, and being a past Lay Director. The job of Women s Registrar is a bit complex, but most rewarding as well. I am one of the blesses ones being able to pray for all the Pilgrims. When a sponsor sends me a pilgrim application, I date each one as I get it. That way, I can be fair in extending invitations to the pilgrims in the order in which they were received. This can be the most difficult part of my job.because a lot of times people want their pilgrims on a specific walk, with specific team members, or a specific time of year. It just is not always possible to accommodate those requests. In fairness to everyone involved, and in prayerful consideration in fulfilling GOD s plan, not ours, we must adhere to the rules I send a postcard to the pilgrims, and wait for their reply.. yes, I will attend no I can not at this time. They are then either placed on the upcoming Pilgrim List, or held for a future Walk date. Currently, we accept a total of 35 pilgrims for a Women s Walk. The applications for the Walk to Emmaus may be found on our website, or you can request them from me. The information on those applications is of the utmost importance.spelling being at the top of the list. I try for 100% accuracy, but if I can t read the writing, there is a greater chance of error. I respectfully request all applications be printed or written LEGIBLY. If I get the name wrong, it s wrong from here on down to the pilgrim lists, for their name badges, Sunday Packets, as well as the price tag on their Emmaus crosses! We all know how important it is to have our name spelled and spoken correctly. You can reach me at cpettie@woh.rr.com, or 937-498-9747 with any questions.. Stay tuned, there s more to come.. Carleen Pettit Women s Registrar
