21 st Century Saint s Words. THE GRAND KNIGHT S COMMENTS After the 5p.m. Sunday Mass and our Membership Drive, one of the Catholic radio stations played a recorded Homily from Pope John Paul II. Given our Knight s greeting of Vivat Jesus (Jesus Lives) the timing seemed more than coincidental as Pope John Paul II urged: Christ wants to go to many places through you...you are called to stand up for life! To respect and defend the mystery of life always and everywhere, including the lives of unborn babies, giving real help and encouragement to mothers in difficult situations. You are called to work and pray against abortion (Excerpted from Pope John Paul II s, 7 October 1995, Homily in Central Park.) Source: http://www.ewtn.com/ library/papaldoc/jp2us95h.htm) Recently, our Council Brothers took two steps on the journey for Christ, to which Pope John Paul II referred. On August 22 nd, Council Brothers participated in a Prayer Event at a Glendale Planned Parenthood location in Glendale, AZ. On September 17 th, our Council approved funding the purchase of an Ultrasound device for a Pro-Life Clinic. Our journey for Christ must continue, we have much to do, however, it will be easy when compared to what Jesus endured for us. Pope Francis UN Remarks on Brotherhood. "El Gaucho Martín Fierro, a classic of literature in my native land, says: 'Brothers should stand by each other, because this is the first law; keep a true bond between you always, at every time because if you fight among yourselves, you'll be devoured by those outside.' " (Excerpted from Pope Francis Remarks at the UN General Assembly, 9/25/15.) God grants the gift of Faith to each of us in Baptism, along with the gifts of Hope and Charity. Although, baptism washes us clean from the guilt of Original Sin, the awful effects of Original Sin remain. We have a suspicion that God somehow doesn t care for us and so we struggle to accept and to live the Truth God has revealed through the prophets and His Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. From this position we might even believe that God will give us a pass on our favorite sin or that He will look the other way when we embrace a sin that society has recently esteemed to be fashionable. Out of a false sense of loyalty we can quickly shift our allegiance from God and place it on a temporal novelty. Behavior of friends or family members may cause us to doubt God s moral authority and rather than hurting their feelings and alienating them we let them remain in their sin without warning them; we might even give our blessing to their error. Jesus said, Do not think that I have come to bring peace upon the earth. I have come not to bring peace but the sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and one s enemies will be those of his household. (Mt 10: 34-36) As Knights of Columbus we have sworn to be faithful to the Gospel of Christ. Let me repeat, it is difficult to be a Catholic in the present moment. Therefore, we must pray for the grace to believe all that Holy Mother Church holds up for us to believe and to put our trust not in men but in God. The surest path to this goal is frequent Confession and frequent reception of Eucharist - and to spend time in adoration of Jesus Christ in the Most Blessed Sacrament of the Altar. Vivat Jesus!!!
