ST. HELEN CHURCH RIVERSIDE, OHIO January 29, 2017 THE CHURCH OF MERCY DISCUSSION QUESTIONS Part 7: Demolishing the Idols What does Pope Francis teach are the consequences of thinking only of ourselves and placing ourselves at the center? What consequences does Pope Francis see in that the culture of waste tends to become a commin mentality that infects everyone? Why does Pope Francis say the Christian cannot coexist with the spirit of the world? Part 8, The Culture of Good How does Pope Francis distinguish the behavior between overeducated Christians and courageous Christians? What does Pope Francis mean when he says that the home provided by the Missionaries of the Homeless Shelter is a mutual gift? What does Pope Francis say is the responsibility of the Christian community toward refugees? Why does Pope Francis stress the importance of the word solidarity? What does Pope Francis mean when he says that true mercy demands that the poor find the way to be poor no longer? Part 9, Mary, Mother of Evangelization How does Pope Francis call us to practice in our own lives Mary s practice of listening with attention, acceptance, and availability to God? What does Pope Francis mean when he says that what took place most singularly in the Virgin Mary also takes place within us, spiritually, when we receive the word of God with a sincere heart and out it into practice? According to Pope Francis, in what ways did Mary also carry the cross? What does Pope Francis mean when he says that we see in Mary that humility and tenderness are not virtues of the weak but of the strong, who need not treat others poorly in order to feel important themselves?
