Bread and Wine Intentions for 2012 are being accepted. 2011 Bread and /or Wine Intentions some dates are still available for this year. GIVING THOUGHT Today s Gospel is about forgiving those who have hurt us. When Peter asks Jesus if he should forgive his brother seven times, Jesus says not seven times but - seventy-seven times. In other words, an unlimited number of times. Perhaps, we can grow in our ability to forgive by looking at the word itself. Forgiving is made up of for and giving. Maybe the more generous we are in giving of our time, talent, and treasure to those in need, including our parish, the more we grow in our ability to offer forgivingness to others. We might conclude give and you will be more ready to forgive.

24 SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME SEPTEMBER 11, 2011 THE PASTOR S COLUMN NEW NEWS This past Tuesday, the teachers of Saint Joseph School gathered for a day of final meetings before the start of school, which began the following day. Mrs. Vail, the school principal, prepared a prayer service for the teachers based on the words spoken by God in the Book of Revelation "Behold, I make all things new." (Revelation 21:5) NEW AT OUR SCHOOL So many improvements have been made in our school over the past months that the principal felt that was the perfect phrase and appropriate theme for our prayer service. Things have been made new. Classrooms have been painted. Floors stripped and polished to a high shine. Blackboards have become white boards. Computers have been upgraded. Smart Boards have been installed. The gym looks like new. There is a new early childhood program for three and four year olds, called the greenhouse, where little scholars begin to blossom. There are several new teachers on staff. The returning staff has renewed enthusiasm and excitement. The PTO and Athletic Association are moving in a new direction. The school has a new logo, a new website, and a new weekly email newsletter. And I could go on. Yes the principal was right, with God's grace, things are being made new. NEW IN THE MASS But is it is not only our school that is being made new. There are some changes coming in the liturgy that may make the Mass seem like new. As you know from the articles that have appeared in this bulletin and in our worship aid, starting Sunday, November 27, 2011, we will begin using a new Missal (the large red book used by the priest) at Mass. This Missal will contain the new English translation of the official, revised Latin text of the Mass. This new English language Missal is being introduced across the United States and in every country where English is used in the liturgy, for example, Great Britain, Australia, South Africa, Canada, etc. COMING CHANGES IN WORDS AND MUSIC This new translation will change many of the words spoken by the priest and also some of your responses. For example, beginning November 27, when the priest says "The Lord be with you," your response will be "And with your spirit." The new translation will mean that we will need to change the music used for the Gloria, Holy, Holy, and other parts of the Mass. Our Music Committee, after considering many possibilities, has chosen some wonderful musical settings for these parts of the Mass. PREPARING To help us prepare for the changes coming November 27, and also to help us grow in our appreciation and understanding of the Mass, our highest form of prayer, we will have a series of homilies on the Mass. These homilies will begin next Sunday, September 18, and continue through October. At the suggestion of the Archdiocese, we will have four homilies in November focused on the new Missal. The homilies on the Mass will not simply be informational, they will also help us to better pray the Mass. The more we understand the Mass, the more we pray the Mass, the more we grow closer to God and become those loving, joyful, hope-filled Christians the Lord calls us to be. HOMILY SCHEDULE Here is a schedule of homilies for the next few weeks. Sunday, September 18, 2011 Importance of Sunday and Community Worship Sunday, September 25, 2011 The Introductory Rites of the Mass Sunday, October 2, 2011 The Liturgy of the Word at Mass Sunday October 9, Columbus Day Weekend Homily focused on the readings. If you have a voice, if you want to give back to God, if you want to meet some nice people, if you want to grow in your appreciation of the Mass, then consider becoming part of our parish choir. For more information, please contact Monroe Quinn, our Music Director (quinnm@sjcnj.org) or speak to him after any Mass. VISIT OUR LOWER SCHOOL TODAY! After any of our weekend Masses, September 10 & 11, you are invited to visit our lower school on Elm Street. Come and see the changes that have taken place in your school! Be sure to see the new look of our gym. You are sure to be impressed.

PARISH WIDE DAY OF SERVICE STEWARDSHIP DAY SATURDAY OCTOBER 22 Look for more details in the coming weeks. A MESSAGE FROM FATHER ROY OFF FOR THANKSGIVING "I am now off for thanksgiving. " That does not mean I am off on vacation until Thanksgiving Day, but rather I will be away from the parish for a few weeks in order to join with my family and friends in the Philippines to rejoice and give thanks to God for the gift of priesthood. The priesthood in itself is a living image of the Sovereign Priest Jesus Christ. Whenever there is a newly ordained priest, the community of God rejoices since by the grace of God, there is another Christ, an alter Christus, formed after the heart of Christ. We give thanks to Almighty God for the grace He bestows on his servant as a priest. It is for this very reason that I humbly ask you to pray for me as I offer a Mass of Thanksgiving at my home parish in Camarines Sur, Philippines. I will also celebrate special Masses of Thanksgiving at the schools, institutions and seminaries I attended in the Philippines, and at the parishes where I was assigned as a seminarian. I will also have an opportunity to visit my family and friends whom I have not seen for some time. Know that I will remember you in my Thanksgiving Mass at the Basilica of Our Lady of Peñafrancia. I ask you to please always remember all the bishops and the clergy, especially our seminarians, in your prayers that the Blessed Mother will always keep us in her maternal protection. But most of all, I urge you to join me in my prayers that God may give us the grace of vocations to priesthood and religious life from St. Joseph Parish. With my love and care, Father Roy FALL CRAFT FAIR IS COMING & THIRD ANNUAL CHILDREN S TRICKY TRAY It's time to start preparing for our Third Annual Children's Tricky Tray that takes place the day of the Craft Fair, September 24. This is a fun-filled event for the children while their parents shop at the Craft Fair. In preparing for this event, we are looking for any donations of new toys, games, sporting equipment, gift cards or anything else that a child would enjoy. If you would like to make a donation, you may drop it off directly at the lower school office or contact Lisa Kane (201-390-2342).
