Some believe in eating anything, while the weak eat only vegetables. Those who eat must not despise those who abstain, and those who abstain must not pass judgement on those who eat; for God has welcomed them. Who are you to pass judgement on servants of another? It is before their own lord that they stand or fall. And they will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make them stand. Some judge one day to be better than another, while others judge all days to be alike. Let all be fully convinced in their own minds. Those who observe the day, observe it in honour of the Lord. Also those who eat, eat in honour of the Lord, since they give thanks to God; while those who abstain, abstain in honour of the Lord and give thanks to God. understanding of the central importance of worship and the role of the gift of music in supporting the liturgy and of communicating the joy of the good news of Christ. Congratulations to all of them. Farewell for the Archdeacon of Surrey - This evening, 6pm People from across the Diocese will gather for Choral Eucharist in celebration of Stuart s service as Archdeacon of Surrey for more than 12 years. All members of the Cathedral community are welcome. Stuart is remaining in his role at the Cathedral as Sub-Dean. Welcome to the Worshipful Company of Woolmen The Worshipful Company of Woolmen is one of the oldest of the Livery Companies of the City of London tracing its roots to 1180. Originally it was the body that oversaw woolpackers and wool merchants to ensure consistent standards for wool producers and wool merchants throughout the wool industry. It now combines its ancient history and traditions with an active role in the global wool industry and, equally importantly, through its Charitable Trust supports research into appropriate wool related procedures and practices; provides bursaries for students of wool, textile, design, wool marketing and retailing and awards prizes and medals for sheep shearing at the major agricultural shows. The Company has a panel dedicated to them in the Livery Companies Window. This was designed by David Maile, made by his family firm, G Maile and Son and dedicated in 1979. Wool is an important of the history of Surrey and woolsacks are included on the arms of many of the towns within the county, including Guildford, Godalming and Farnham and on the Diocesan shield. Choir Chaperones could this be you? It is lovely to have the choirs back after the summer holiday, especially now the Cathedral is scaffold free. Thank you to all who are already choir chaperones. In order to ensure the enjoyment and safety of all our choristers we still need a few more to join the team.
