MARK YOUR CALENDARS! ARCHBISHOP WESTER WILL BE HERE AT SACRED HEART THIS TUESDAY JANUARY 16TH AT 6PM It is always a very big deal when the bishop comes to visit his parishes. Please come! He will be here to host a panel discussion on the clergy sex abuse scandals and how to find help and healing for victims. This is a very important topic for all of us to know about and to know how to help people who have suffered from abuse. Archbishop has been going around our Archdiocese hosting these and they have been extremely well received, and extremely helpful to all those who have attended. Please plan to come. All are invited and welcome. It is a mature topic, obviously, but certainly all adults of the parish should plan to come at the Archbishop s request and invitation.

TWO NEW OPORTUNITIES FOR ADULT BIBLE STUDY AND FAITH FORMATION HERE We here at Sacred Heart take ongoing adult faith formation very seriously. People are hungry to learn the Word of God from a deeply spiritual and authentically Catholic perspective. Well, we have two new Studies starting up, all are invited and welcome. One is Wednesday night at 6:15PM where we will study the prophetic literature of the Bible. The other is on Tuesday morning at 9:35AM (After the Tuesday 9AM Mass) where we will be going deep into Catholic Apologetics to see how best to help those who have fallen away from the practice of their Catholic faith. Two days and two times for different schedules; or come to both! Wednesday Night at 6:15PM, Adult Bible Study, in the school, room 1, STARTS JANUARY 10th: If we consider that God is the Divine Bridegroom and the Church is his Bride, then the prophets can be seen as spiritual marriage counselors. They afflict the comfortable and comfort the afflicted, calling us to return to our covenant relationship with God. They urge us to repentance, warn us of the dangers of sin, and announce the blessings of faithfulness. Their prophetic words speak to us even today, as they draw us closer to our heavenly Bridegroom. Join our Parish for this Great Adventure study on the prophets, presented by Thomas Smith! Each week, you will come to know a prophet from Scripture and learn how his message sheds light on our faith and our lives. In getting to know these messengers of God, you will read Scripture and the Catechism, while answering thought-provoking questions and powerful reflections. Plus, you will learn practical ways to apply the messages of the prophets in your own life. A study on the prophets has been one of the most requested programs from The Great Adventure. The Prophets: Messengers of God s Mercy places the Old Testament prophets in context of salvation history, making their personalities and contexts easy to follow, understand, and relate to our lives. We here at Sacred Heart will begin The Prophets: Messengers of God s Mercy on January 10th at 6:15PM, in the school, room 1. For more information or to register for the study come on Wednesday night or call the parish office. You will find it enriching and inspirational! Tuesday Morning at 9:35AM, Adult Faith Formation, in the school room 1, Starting January 23: SEARCH AND RESCUE, APOLOGETICS HOW TO BRING YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS INTO OR BACK INTO THE CATHOLIC CHURCH If you are very concerned because someone near and dear has left the Church, or doesn t embrace the Catholic faith or refuses to consider entering it, a son, a daughter, a relative, a coworker, or a close friend, this study group is for you. Don t go it alone! This extensive college level course will (1) help you explain your Catholic faith more intelligently, (2) defend it more charitably, and (3) share it more effectively! We will study together an actual one semester course taught at a seminary using primarily 2 books, Search and Rescue by Patrick Madrid and Handbook of Catholic Apologetics by Kreeft and Tacelli. Come to our first meeting right after the 9AM Mass on Tuesday, January 23 in the school. If you can t attend and would like to take the class, if there are enough interested, we can also meet in an evening or other time. Deacon Rowley will guide the discussions and provide the course syllabus and some of the materials. Please call or text Deacon Rowley if you are interested, 575-760-1372.
