Nancy Matthews nlmatthews@ritternet.com. Commandments of Genealogy (1) Thou shalt name your male children: James, John, Joseph, Josiah, Abel, Richard, Thomas, William, Isaac, Ezekiel, Elijah, Charles, George (2) Thou shalt name your female children: Elizabeth, Mary, Martha, Maria, Sarah, Ida, Virginia, May, Rebecca, Ann, Nancy. (A) All females should have at least one masculine gender middle name, such as Clyde, Fred, Lee, Thomas, Sylvester... (3) Thou shalt leave NO trace of your female children. (4) Thou shalt, after naming your children from the above lists, call them by strange nicknames such as: Ike, Eli, Polly, Dolly, Millie, Peggy and Sukey.---making them difficult to trace. ALL children will have at least 3 middle names to use and confuse. (5) Thou shalt NOT use any middle names on any legal documents or census reports, and only where necessary, you may use only initials on legal documents. (6) Thou shalt learn to sign all documents illegibly so that your surname can be spelled, or misspelled, in various ways: Hicks, Hix, Hixe, Hucks, Kicks (7) Thou shalt, after no more then 3 generations, make sure that all family records are lost, misplaced, burned in a fire, or buried so that NO future trace of them can be found. (8) Thou shalt propagate misleading legends, rumors, vague innuendo regarding your place origination. (A) you may have come from : England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales...or Iran. 4
(B) you may have American Indian ancestry of the tribe. (C) You may have descended from one of three brothers that came over from. (9) Thou shalt leave NO cemetery records, or headstones with legible names. (10) Thou shalt leave NO family Bible with records of birth, marriages, or deaths. (11) Thou shalt ALWAYS flip thy name around. If born James Albert, thou must make all the rest of thy records in the names of Albert, AJ, JA, AL, Bert, Bart, or Alfred. (12) Thou must also flip thy parent's names when making reference to them, although "Unknown" or a blank line is an acceptable alternative. (13) Thou shalt name at least 5 generations of males, and dozens of their cousins with identical names in order to totally confuse researchers. (14) Thou shalt burn the courthouse in thine community when thou leaves so-as to leave no trace of thou having ever been there. (A) If any relatives are left behind, they are to be instructed that thy name is never recorded in any document that cannot be destroyed. (16) Thou shalt instruct the minister after a wedding, to make no records thereof. Thou shalt tip him handsomely if he agrees. (17) Thou shalt make certain that age date ranges do not ever agree from one census to the next. (18) No record of any 'shotgun' marriage or out of wedlock birth shall exist anywhere. See items 7 & 14. (19) Wills shall be as ambiguous as possible in order that future descendents shall never have a clue who was who. (A) Thy children shall be instructed to never pass on family names, dates or locations unless pressed to do so, then they should also be as ambiguous as possible. (20) Any land description on record shall use bushes, stumps, creeks, swamps as boundaries by obscure names to confuse others of future generations in order that thine tracks are sufficiently covered. 1880 US and 1881 Canadian and British Censuses Now Online The following is an announcement from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints: SALT LAKE CITY - In honor of Family History Month, The Church of Jesus Christ of 5
Latter-day Saints is making invaluable indexes of American and Canadian heritage available free to the public at the touch of a button. The 1880 United States Census and the 1881 Canadian Census, searchable databases of more than 55 million people, are now on the Internet at http://www.familysearch.org, signifying another great leap forward in online family history research. The online availability of the two censuses was announced by President Gordon B. Hinckley in the historic Tabernacle on Temple Square in Salt Lake City with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir singing "O Canada" and "The Star-Spangled Banner." Dozens of other press conferences were held across Canada and the United States, from Edmonton to Toronto and from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C., making this the largest family history announcement in the history of the Church.
