Staff Corner Dear St. Francis Parish Family, I write with my heart full from my first Holy Week at St. Francis. Already it has been 2 weeks since we celebrated Christ's Resurrection and still I carry with me the joy of welcoming folks into full communion in the Catholic Church and the powerful sacred space of Good Friday's evening service sponsored by the Music Ministry, 20/30s Ministry, and Social Justice Ministry. Recently, I've been reflecting on and two short talks the Pope gave on the need for a 'revolution of tenderness.' Here he articulates one of my hopes for our world, city, and neighborhood: "How wonderful would it be if the growth of scientific and technological innovation would come along with more equality and social inclusion," Francis said. "How wonderful would it be, while we discover faraway planets, to rediscover the needs of the brothers and sisters orbiting around us. How wonderful would it be if solidarity this beautiful and, at times, inconvenient word were not simply reduced to social work and became, instead, the default attitude in political, economic and scientific choices, as well as in the relationships among individuals, peoples and countries." How wonderful too for us to be coming together as a Parish through a dedicated Social Justice Ministry to consider our own journey to tenderness. In this spirit, I continue to be invigorated by parishioners who come from so many different backgrounds and perspectives, yet united by our Catholic faith, who have taken on together the responsibility of beginning our parish's Social Justice Ministry. Our work as a Social Justice Ministry is one with the work of parish life. We are guided by our questions about tenderness, our faith, our society, and our responsibility. I hope you'll join us, whether at an event or with an idea or just your heart and presence. I'm just an email or hello away. In solidarity, Mary Follow St. Francis on Twitter & Instagram!
