(The underlined portion of the verse indicates what the younger children should memorize. See Involvement Helps for Younger Children for helps in teaching the verse to the younger children.) Mountain Echo After reading the verse from your Bible, explaining what it means, and repeating it at least two times, you may begin this drill. To remind the children of Abraham traveling away from home, divide the class into three groups: loud mountain, medium mountain, and whisper mountain. Stand in front of the groups and say the verse a phrase at a time. Each mountain group echoes the verse, starting with the loud mountain which repeats it with a loud voice. The medium mountain repeats the verse in a medium voice, followed by the whisper mountain which whispers it. Rotate the groups so each group has at least one turn at being each of the mountains. Safe Arrival in America Back the globes for the flannelboard, and then cut out them out. (See attached pattern.) Write the following countries on the back: Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Ireland, Spain, France, Portugal, Morocco, Cuba, Haiti, and America. Explain that years ago in the country of England some people wanted to be free to choose their own church. They set sail on the Mayflower. Sixty-five days later they saw land. The people must have shouted, We made it. They had arrived safely in America. If a child correctly answers a review question, he may choose any globe and look behind it to see if he has found AMERICA. Continue asking questions until someone finds America. When America is found, say, We will all be thankful because everyone will get a piece of candy! As time allows, mix up the globes on the board and play it again. - by Rita L. Hebrews 11:8 Put hands together as open Bible. BIBLE LESSON HELPS: Throughout Scene 1 Scene 2 Scene 3 Scene 5 Each time the word believe is used in the Main Thrust, have children make a T to explain it means trust : fingers of one hand vertical, fingers of the other resting on top horizontally. Together, everyone says, Trust. Have children make a beckoning motion with their arm as they say God s command, Come! Pretending to be Sarah, raise shoulders, elbows bent, palms up in air. Ask in a puzzled voice, But Abraham, where are we going? have their names changed Have children put up seven fingers, representing days of the week. Then raise hands six times as count aloud together, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 for weeks of traveling. Work on building an altar as Abraham did. Carry stones. Pile on wood. Mount camels and ride to Egypt. BIBLE LEARNING GAME: adapted from Mother, May I? Establish a starting line and a finish line across the room. Chose one child as the leader. Stand this child between the two lines. Have other children stand on starting line. Chose one of these to be Abraham. The leader gives a direction to Abraham, such as Take two giant steps forward or Take a giant step backwards or Take 2 hops forward, etc. Abraham then asks, Should I? If leader responds, Trust me, Abraham and all the children say together, You can trust God to keep His promises. Then they move as indicated. If leader responds, Don t trust me, no one is allowed to move. Continue until someone reaches the finish line. (The finish line may be called the land God promised. ) That child becomes the new Abraham. Choose a new leader and play again. CHILD EVANGELISM FELLOWSHIP OF EASTERN PA, INC. P.O. LEARNING ABOUT THE BIBLE & THE OLD TESTAMENT BOOKS WEEK #3 (Place figure #1.) Do you know how many books are in the Bible? Yes, the Bible has 66 books in it, and it is divided into two parts. (Place figure #10.) The first part is the Old Testament and has 39 books in it. (Place figure #11.) The second part of the Bible is the New Testament, and it has 27 books in it. (Place figure #12.) So the Bible is a book of books. The word Testament means agreement or promise. The Old Testament tells us that God promised the Saviour would come. The New Testament tells us that God kept His promise the Saviour (Jesus) did come. (Place figure #17.) There are three reasons why God gave us the Old and New Testaments: 1) To learn about God. (Place figure #18.) 2) To believe in Jesus. (Place figure #19.) 3) To know right from wrong. (Place figure #20.) Everything in the Bible is the correct record of what God wants you to know and do. The more you read the Bible, the more you know what are the right things for you to do. I am thankful to have a copy of the Bible to study so that I can tell you about God and the Lord Jesus. GO AND TELL BOX Week #5 Information About the Jenkins INFORMATION (Suggested item to put in the Go and Tell Box a small plastic plane or picture of a plane.) What do you think a plane has to do with going and telling? (Let the children share their ideas.) Many missionaries fly on a plane when they are going to the place where God has called them to serve Him. Some missionaries also need a plane on the mission field to travel and to transport supplies from village to village. The father of one of the missionaries that we are going to learn about this year was a missionary pilot. Let me tell you about this missionary couple. They are Mr. and Mrs. Jenkins. (Show their picture.) We will call them Mr. Jared and Mrs. Cindy. Mr. Jared was born and raised in the country of India where his parents were missionaries. Mrs. Cindy grew up in Nigeria, West Africa. Mrs. Cindy s parents were missionaries there. Her father was a missionary pilot. The Jenkins have served for many years as missionaries in the country of Suriname, located in the northern part of South America. Now Mr. Jared and Mrs. Cindy live in Florida, where they have a ministry sharing the Good News of Jesus love with international students who come to the United States to study at a college. They also each summer share in Good News Day Camps. Some of our missionary offering will be sent to help Mr. Jared and Mrs. Cindy, and we will learn more about them later this year. PRAYER THANK God for Mr. Jared and Mrs. Cindy as they faithfully share the Gospel with many people through their current ministry to the international students. ASK God to help people remember to pray for the Jenkins and that they will give of their money so Mr. Jared and Mrs. Cindy can continue to serve the Lord among international students in the U.S.A.
