W J H While it s important to share a portion of our blessings with God, it s equally important to do so with a generous and happy heart. If we re giving only because we feel we have to or with a grudging attitude, we re missing the point entirely. We have been granted the gift of life and everything that makes up our everyday existence comes from our Heavenly Father. Have you taken an inventory of your blessings lately? If you allow yourself the time to reflect on all the goodness in your life, you would realize that your cup is certainly overflowing. God s gifts are abundant but, unfortunately, often taken for granted. Our families, friends, homes, careers, health and the very air we breathe! are all blessings from above. The talents we possess, the time that we cherish and the treasures that we accumulate haven t been given to us to lock away and hide, but rather to share with joy and gratitude. For some people the act of turning things over to God is a frightening concept, but once this leap of faith has been taken, lives are transformed forever. Being a good Christian steward is a natural state to those who understand that everything comes from our Lord. Rejoice in the knowledge that God will provide for your every need and that He will not be outdone in His generosity. This week spend some extra time with your family, allow yourself the luxury of a restful evening and set aside special moments for God through prayer. Then sit down and take that all-important inventory so that the next time you offer a gift as a measure of your gratitude, you will do so willingly, enthusiastically and with a joyful heart!. We pray that more and more members of the St. Barnabas family will soon choose to financially support our capital campaign with joyful hearts. For a pledge card or to schedule a volunteer visit, simply call Sarah Peterson at 773.779.1166, ext. 222 or email speterson@stbarnabasparish.org. BARNABAS CLASS OF 1967 St. Barnabas class of 67 50 th reunion will be held at Barney Callaghan s Pub in the party room, on Saturday, September 30 th. Time to be determined. For more information contact Marty Gallagher gallag@ameritech.net. Also, join our group on Facebook St. Barnabas Class of 1967 reunion. BOOK DRIVE Mercy Sister Carol Mucha, former St. Barnabas principal, is conducting a used book sale at Saint Xavier University. Proceeds help students who cannot afford to go on retreats or do service trips to various places in the U.S. She counts heavily on the generosity of others who want to dispose of books of all genres, even CD's, DVD's, videos, magazines, and small electronics, including cell phones (they do not have to work). If you want to help, just bring the items over to McDonough Chapel, 3700 West 103rd Street, between 9am and 4pm. If you are unable to drop off we can pick up or if help is needed to unload, we can do that also. For more information, call Sister Carol at 708-297-4232. Gratefully, Sister Carol. HAVING A PARTY... for graduation, holidays, your block party, etc? The St. Barnabas Eccommittee can help make your event an ecologically green one. We provide containers for aluminum cans which we will distribute to you and collect. The revenue from these cans is used to purchase eco-friendly products for St. Barnabas events. We also provide paper cups and water coolers to avoid using bottled water. So much bottled water comes from 3rd world countries. People are dying there as we drink their water here. Please don't purchase or drink bottled water. Lives depend on your compassionate choice. You can call the rectory at 773-779-1166 or call 773-779-6064. A very special Thank you to the St. Barnabas Bridge League for their generous donation. Peace Quote - June, 2017 Each moment is a chance for us to make peace with the world, to make peace possible for the world. T.N. Hanh
