PALM SUNDAY MARCH 20, 2016 TODAY'S WORSHIP Divine Service III LSB pages 184-202 L = Liturgist * = Stand C = Congregation PRELUDE WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS *OPENING HYMN Hosanna, Loud Hosanna LSB 443 1. Hosanna, loud hosanna, The little children sang; Through pillared court and temple The lovely anthem rang. To Jesus, who had blessed them, Close folded to His breast The children sang their praises The simplest and the best. 2. From Olivet they followed Mid an exultant crowd, The victor palm-branch waving And chanting clear and loud. The Lord of men and angels Rode on in lowly state Nor scorned that little children Should on His bidding wait. 3. "Hosanna in the highest!" That ancient song we sing, For Christ is our Redeemer, The Lord of heav n our King. Oh, may we ever praise Him With heart and life and voice And in His blissful presence Eternally rejoice. *INVOCATION AND CALL TO WORSHIP L: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen. L: Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! C: Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! L: Lo, your King comes to you; triumphant and victorious is He; C: Humble and riding on a donkey, on a colt the foal of a donkey. L: And the crowds that went before Him and that followed Him shouted: C: Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest! L: And when He entered Jerusalem, all the city was stirred, saying, "Who is this?" C: And the crowds said, This is the prophet, Jesus from Nazareth of Galilee. L: Remember, O Lord, Your tender mercies and Your loving kindnesses; C: For they have been ever of old. L: O keep my soul, and receive my confession, gracious Lord: C: Merciful heavenly Father, for the sake of the suffering and death of Your Son, Jesus Christ, be gracious and merciful to me, a poor sinful being. Forgive my sins, give me Your Holy Spirit for the amending of my sinful life, and bring me to life everlasting. Amen. *THE ABSOLUTION C: Amen. *THE GLORIA PATRI (Taken from LSB, page 186) C: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. *THE KYRIE C: Lord, have mercy upon us, Christ, have mercy upon us, Lord, have mercy upon us.

*THE COLLECT OF THE DAY L: The Lord be with you. C: And with thy spirit. L: Let us pray. C: Amen. THE OLD TESTAMENT READING for Palm Sunday is from Zechariah 9:9-10, page 797: 9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. 10 I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim and the war horse from Jerusalem; and the battle bow shall be cut off, and he shall speak peace to the nations; his rule shall be from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth. L: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. 8:00 Chancel Choir One Thousand Hosannas THE EPISTLE is from Philippians 2:5-16, page 980-981: 5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. 12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. 14 Do all things without grumbling or disputing, 15 that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, 16 holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain. L: This is the Word of the Lord. *ALLELUIA AND VERSE C: Alleluia. Alleluia. Alleluia. *THE HOLY GOSPEL - The Holy Gospel according to St. Mark, the eleventh chapter, verses 1-10, page 847: C: Glory be to Thee, O Lord. 1 Now when they drew near to Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples 2 and said to them, Go into the village in front of you, and immediately as you enter it you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it. 3 If anyone says to you, Why are you doing this? say, The Lord has need of it and will send it back here immediately. 4 And they went away and found a colt tied at a door outside in the street, and they untied it. 5 And some of those standing there said to them, What are you doing, untying the colt? 6 And they told them what Jesus had said, and they let them go. 7 And they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on it, and he sat on it. 8 And many spread their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy branches that they had cut from the fields. 9 And those who went before and those who followed were shouting, Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! 10 Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the highest! L: This is the Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise be to Thee, O Christ. *THE APOSTLES' CREED I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontious Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
