(Philippians 2:8) Key Thought: Just as Christ was called to suffer, we too must be willing to suffer for Him. 1) Intro & Context 2) Clarifying the PROMISES of God a. Life (through dying) (cf. Jn. 10:10; 12:24-25; Php. 1:21) b. Prosperity (but poverty) (cf. Ps. 112:1,3; Mt. 19:24; Lk. 6:20,24) c. Love (but being hated) (cf. Rom. 8:38-39; 1 Jn. 3:1; Mt. 10:22; Lk. 6:22) d. Peace (but being persecuted) (cf. Jn. 14:27; Mt. 10:34-36) e. Joy (but suffering) (cf. Jn. 15:11, 18) 3) Accepting a life of SUFFERING (cf. Ps. 31:9-16; Isa. 50:4-9a; Php. 2:5-11) Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me (Mt. 10:38) a. Called to carry a cross (cf. Mt. 10:38; Mk. 8:34; Gal. 6:14) b. Called to suffer (cf. Acts 9:16; Rom. 8:17; Php. 1:29; 1 Pt. 2:21; 4:1) Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus (2 Tim. 2:3) 4) God s HAPPY ones (Mt. 5:1-12) 5) Conclusion QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION: Will you serve God in times of blessing only?
