Food Drive St. Joseph Charitie s annual Lenten Food Drive will take place the first 2 weekends in March. Empty bags with a suggested food list will be distributed after all Masses on March 3rd & 4th. Filled bags are to be returned the following weekend, March 10/11. This annual Food Drive supports the Athens Area Emergency Food Bank. Thank you in advance for your generosity. Come join Us! Relay for Life is the signature event for the American Cancer Society. This one night celebration is in honor of all those who have won their fight against cancer, those who are still battling, and those who have finished the race. St. Joseph Parish has had a team for many years and we are once again recruiting. PARISH NEWS Decorating for Lent Arts and Environment will be decorating the Chapel and Parish Center Altar at various times throughout Lent. We now have collection boxes in the hallway of the Parish Center. Each Box Top and Label can be found on many products we all use every day. Please tear them off and place them in the box provided. Last year we received approximately $750 for our school. Each label sent in is worth 10 cents, so they add up quickly. Thanks for your help! St. Joseph Parish School 958 Epps Bridge Parkway Athens, GA 30606 706-543-1621 Catechumens and Candidates were presented to the Archbishop in the Rite of Election on Sunday, February 25 at the Georgia World Congress Center. All parishes in the Archdiocese were represented and filled the Murphy Ballroom. RCIA/RICA participants have been on a journey of exploration of our Catholic faith. Some began in August, but many began prior to that. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults begins with Inquiry, which leads to the Rite of Acceptance and Welcoming, at which time they enter a period known as the Catechumenate. Participants are then referred to as Catechumens, if they are seeking Baptism, or Candidates, if they are already baptized and seeking full unity through Confirmation into the Church. RICA/RCIA The Catechumenate phase leads to the period of Purification and Enlightenment, which includes the Rite of Sending and the Rite of Election and Call to Continuing Conversion and culminates with the Rite of Ephphetha and the Easter Vigil Mass, at which time they officially become members of the faith. But their study doesn t end there! The last phase is Mystagogy, which teaches how faithful Catholics incorporates our teachings into their home and daily life. We have almost 70 people in our program this year. Only four of them will receive the Sacrament of Baptism. All of them will receive Confirmation and the Eucharist.
