William S Ely disappears briefly from census records in 1850. May 7, 1882 Isaac T. Dawson (son-in-law) was appointed guardian of Rebecca as a person of unsound mind (age 74) From May 11, 1891 administrated estate giving approximate death. Note of UTTERBACK Rebecca I have the land grant signed by Andrew Jackson in April 1, 1829 for 80 acres in Ralls County, Missouri granted to Rebecca Utterback, aged 2. She was married by then so why did the land go into her name (maiden) not William Scott Ely. Father, Hankerson Utterback, had 1600 acres in Ralls County, Missouri wanted to keep in daughter's name?

In his will written Nov 12, 1792 and probated February 15, 1796, he names Benjamin Ely as only son. He willed his wife Sarah 1/3 of his Hampshire County estate, 1/3 and 50 pounds to only son Benjamin (who had moved by 1791 to Bourbon County (to be Montgomery) Kentucky, and the rest to grandson William, provided he stay on the premises.
