Pathways of Kemp United Methodist Church Pastor Gary s thoughts.. June 2017 Friends, Welcome to Summer 2017. We have some old friends returning on the 21st of June as the H.I.S. Bicycle Trip overnights with us. This trip from Illinois to Ohio is made each year to raise funds for the Haitian Interdenominational Shelter and we have opened our doors to them for nearly a decade. Kemp UMC will be hosting a high carbohydrate dinner for the riders on the 21st and everyone is welcomed to attend. It will be a wonderful opportunity for you to meet a passionate group of disciples ranging in age from teenagers to the elderly and to give them continued encouragement. They will also show us how important it is to be missional and to support H.I.S. PLEASE CALL THE OFFICE TO COFIRM YOUR ATTENDANCE. My hope is that Kemp UMC can continue to grow from a mission minded church to a missional church. The differences between these two approaches follows: The mission-minded church emphasizes sending and supporting; the missional church emphasizes being and doing. The mission-minded church is representative; the missional church is participative. The mission-minded church perceives mission as one expression of its ministry; the missional church perceives mission as the essence of its existence. Have a great month, join us for dinner on the 21st and start thinking about how you will be part of a refined focus on being a missional church. Please RSVP by June 19. Peace, Pastor Gary Tipton County s 2017 Relay For Life will be held on Friday, June 16 in the Tipton City Park from 5:00-11:00PM. Once again, Mike and Susan Forkner are leading Kemp s team. There are many ways you can be part of this important event: Sign up to walk on the team. Secure pledges for team members. Come out and cheer on the team and maybe bring them a snack or two! Questions? Ask Susan and Mike Forkner. Dear Friends at Kemp, On behalf of the staff and volunteers of the American Cancer Society, we sincerely thank you for your recent contribution. We truly appreciate your gift of $100.00 through Relay for Life The American Cancer Society Relay for Life movement is the world s largest fundraising event to save lives from cancer. Uniting communities across the globe, we celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action for lifesaving change. Your gift helps the Society save lives by raising awareness, encouraging prevention, fostering innovation, inspiring generosity, deepening understanding and providing care for anyone touched by cancer. BEING THE HANDS AND FEET OF CHRIST Dear Friends: United Methodist Churches of Indiana I am writing to thank you for your faithful payment of your 2016 tithes and district asking's. According to our records, you are one of 647 churches which tithed at or above the 90% level! Thank you! Because of your faithfulness, lives are saved, miracles are multiplied and our witness is shared locally and globally Because of your faithfulness, the budgets of the Annual Conference are supported, our denomination's shared ministries are supported, and the necessary underpinning has been provided for all of the additional mission giving, Advance Special, special offerings, and related efforts which depend upon our connectional structure. Because of your faithfulness to tithing, a young child was able to make her first public commitment to Christ through our camping program, a pastor s spouse was able to be treated for a life-threatening disease without experiencing catastrophic financial drain, and a college student received guidance from a university chaplain. Along with these ministries you have enabled your church to be connected to people in need around the world. Thank you for your generous giving in the past, and thank you for your faithfulness this year in meeting your obligations and opportunities for ministry. May God Continue to bless you with generous hearts and with abundant resources to share. Be encouraged, Bishop Julius C. Trimble
