PASTORAL CARE OF THE SICK: If you are planning to enter the hospital for surgery, experiencing a prolonged or serious illness, or homebound, call the parish office to arrange for the sacraments of reconciliation, communion and anointing at home. Communal anointing of the sick is celebrated at Mass during the Advent and Lenten seasons. WELCOME TO NEW PARISHIONERS: The Saint Patrick faith community warmly welcomes you! MISSION STATEMENT Saint Patrick Parish is a Christian community of disciples in the Roman Catholic tradition, called by Jesus, united in Eucharistic worship and growing in faith, hope and love. Nourished through the sacraments and strengthened by God s transforming love, we are empowered to know the gospel message and to bear witness to others. As Christian stewards, we are thankful for God s many gifts and we commit ourselves to share our time, talent and treasure in Christ-like service within our parish community and beyond. We seek God s blessing and guidance to be faithful to this mission.

He conveys the message that God will love and protect those who have remained faithful to him. Second Reading: Philippians 4:4-7 Paul encourages the Philippians to be ready for Christ. He tells them not to worry about their concerns, but to instead ask God's help and allow his peace to fill their hearts and minds. St. Patrick s Religious Education News From the desk of Fr. Ginel Today the Church refers to this Sunday as Gaudete Sunday or Rejoice Sunday. It is as if she cannot wait to celebrate the coming of Jesus in glory and so expresses that joy in celebrating his birthday on Christmas Day. The prophet Zephaniah indicates to the people of Jerusalem in spite of everything God is still among them. Even if they do not perceive His presence, His love perdures in those who maintain their fidelity to Him; His protective power will remain with them always. Rejoicing in the Lord should always be our strength, but it carries with it the necessity of having a clean conscience in order to experience a true joy of heart without the burden of serious sin. St. Paul tells the Christian community at Philippi that being weighed down with worldly cares will not aid them in experiencing divine peace. The Philippians ought to seek God s help, that the grace, or gift, of His peace would permeate their minds and hearts. If we imagine John the Baptist as the one of whom Jesus said, There is no one born of woman greater than John it should give us pause to the meaning of those words spoken by the Son of God. Christ s statement, in reference to John the Baptist, indicates the importance of his role as precursor to the Messiah. If, in his greatness, John claims that he is not the Messiah, that there is one among them whose sandal strap he is not worthy to un-fasten, how much greater is the One to whom he (John) is pointing. Taking into account the role of John, what an example is set before us. How pleasing to God we would be if we would frequent the sacrament of confession, allow Jesus to cleanse us of our sins and then go before him witnessing our faith in Him before others. May we glorify God by our lives, who will in turn, glorify us before others when Christ comes again in glory. Have a great week! Father Ginel The Religious Ed. Christmas Pageant will be held on Sunday, Dec. 13 at 2:00 pm, in the Church. All are welcome to come and enjoy. Afterwards, please join us in the Parish Center for a special visitor. For more information, please call the office at (845) 928-6688. ALTAR ROSARY SOCIETY NEWS The Rosary Altar Society holds meetings every first Saturday, after 9am Mass, following the Rosary. We are looking for new members to enlighten our ministry to the Blessed Virgin Mary. All who may be willing to serve, please contact Debbie Caldwell at 928-7681. ADULT BIBLE STUDY Our last meeting of the year will be Wednesday, Dec. 16, in Room 8 of the Religious Education Building. All, who have attended even one session this term, are encouraged to come and share your favorite dessert for a Christmas potluck. We will resume our study in March, after the coldest part of the winter is over. The group decided to do Isaiah next, and I will try to provide the study materials to all that night, if they arrive in time. A very happy Christmas and New Year to all!
