Lent in Reception We did a sponsored walk. We enjoyed it. We did a messy hair day when we had loads of fun with everyone messing their hair up. It looked really funny. We also had a pyjama day. We had to wear pyjamas all day at school, which was great fun. We had a Passover meal, when we had spicy sauce and herbs and salt water and an apple mixture. It helped us to know what Jesus was doing at the Last Supper. We have done some writing about the Easter story. Lent in Y1 Lent started with an Ash Wednesday mass when Father Daly made the sign of the cross on our foreheads. We sung hymns and said prayers until break time. We had lots of fun making and decorating Easter bonnets, and then we had an Easter bonnet parade with our bonnets on our heads. For our Lenten fundraising challenge us and Year 2 organised a disco and raised around 300! We thank Mrs.Bracey for coming up with this idea. Last Tuesday we made crosses in the forest with the help of Mrs Mosley, and on the Wednesday we had and Easter egg hunt in the woods and enjoyed it greatly. On the whole, we had a super Lent and we hope next year will be the same! By : Michael and Maria With the help of : Mason Canny (Year 6)

Lent in Y2 We have learnt all about how Jesus died and how on Easter Sunday he rose from the dead. We made a Last Supper story book and we wrote all about it. The chocolate hunt, in the woods, was amazing. We had fun finding the chocolates which were hidden in the woods. For the Lenten challenge we held a disco, where we played lots of games like musical statues, pass the parcel and who is the best dancer. If you were the best you got to go on stage to dance for everyone. We made lots of Easter Crafts like Krispie cakes, chicken and rabbit pencil pots, finger puppets and crosses, rabbit and chicken cards. We sold these to children in the school on Wednesday 16 th April 2014. By Eva Kekic and Sally Dodd Lent in Y3 For Easter Year 3 and Year 4 did an Easter play. It was fantastic. Doing the play taught people the true meaning of Easter. We really enjoyed learning and performing the songs. Everyone had an Easter bonnet parade around the school and lots of parents came to watch. Then we had an Easter egg hunt in the school woods. Mrs Bancroft hid the Easter eggs. It was really fun finding the eggs. Year 3 did a lot of raising money for St Luke s Hospice and the MacMillan Nurses. We had a lot of fun doing these actives such as a penalty shoot-out, a book sale, a toy sale, an egg hunt and a cake sale.

Lent in Y4 To start Lent at St Anne s we had an Ash Wednesday service. Year 4 and 3 did an Easter play, which we worked very hard on. We made or bought costumes for it and practiced our lines a lot. To raise money we did a sponsored activity run outside. We had to work together to complete challenges like holding hands and balancing a bean bag on each of our heads, if someone s bean bag fell off their head the others in their group had to help pick it back up and put it on their head again. KS2 had a reconciliation service led by Father Daly in our Prayer Garden. We wrote on paper doves and at the service we placed them in a bowl of water to symbolise that our sins were forgiven. Year 4 also had a hunt to find chocolate chickens and chocolate bunnies. The whole school had an Easter bonnet parade. We all made lovely bonnets and we had a competition. In our class Joe Bradley won the competition. Lent in Y5 In year five, we have been taking part in lots of fun challenges over Lent. We hope you enjoy reading about them! On Ash Wednesday, we took part in an Ash Wednesday Mass, where we got ashes in the shape of a cross on our foreheads. The ashes were made of the burnt palm leaves from last Palm Sunday. After that, Mrs Brown set us a challenge: she told us a parable about a rich man who gave one of his three servants five talents, another one two, and the last, one. The first servant went away and made five more talents to give to his master. The second made two more, but the third servant only buried his talent. When the master came back, he was pleased with the first two servants, but he was annoyed at the third. Then Mrs Brown gave each class five pounds and asked us to try to make more. Our class had lots of ideas about how we could raise money, including: Beat the Keeper Cake Sale Sponsored Run Portraits and many more. We finally decided on the underlined ideas and we have made lots of money (all of it is going to charity).

We were also invited to Saint Mary s church to watch their Easter Play, where we sang along to some catchy songs, which was really good fun. We did the Stations of the Cross at our church, St Anne s, which we all took part in and enjoyed, and we had a reconciliation service for KS2 (in which one of the Year Three children made their First Forgiveness) in our very own Prayer Garden. And last, but not least, we had our Easter Bonnet Parade, which all of the classes took part in and spent time on (some of the hats were amazing, including one of a bird s head, one of a bird s egg and all of the holy days!), even Mrs Brown had a pink bonnet! Lent in Y6: During Lent Year 6 have been taking part in various events and organising activities for charity. We started lent with a Mass on Ash Wednesday with Father Daly and Deacon Peter. There were readings, hymns and we all had ashes on our foreheads. Then the classes were given a Lenten challenge to raise as much money as we could for charity with the use of 5! Year 6 decided to do a sponsored obstacle course and some of the class decided to do small things by themselves or in little groups. Here is a list of what we did : Portraits by Juliette, bracelets by Caitlin and Orla and the whole class did a sponsored obstacle course. We all raised a lot of money when we put it all together and were really happy with what we had done. Deacon Peter invited Year 5 and 6 to church to read through the Stations of the Cross and we all stood by the station of the cross that we were reading and it was loads of fun. KS2 went to an Easter service at St. Mary s where we sang some hymns and watched some really funny plays. Then we had lots of fun making our Easter bonnets and showing them off to the rest of the school. Our class winner was Harry Far. On the whole we ve had a great lent and a great time doing all the thing that were organised and can t wait for next year!
