Paths of Duty American Missionary Wives in Nineteenth-Century Hawaii Patricia Grimshaw Between 1819 and 1850, eighty young, well-educated women from New England married dedicated young men and made the long journey to the Hawaiian Islands to carry Christ's message to the Hawaiians.
