The Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time Saturday and Sunday October 28 & 29, 2017 www.stjudecatholic.org October 29, 2017 Dear Friends: As you read this column, I will be away with friends for a brief, 4 day vacation. You are all in my prayers. Please keep us in yours for a safe return. I mentioned during Masses last weekend that I spent last Friday with the eighth grade class from our school for their annual class retreat. We were privileged to use the facilities of St. Gabriel Parish, just a few minutes away. I wanted to share with you that this was a beautiful experience. The weather was great, and our moms who led the small groups did an amazing job. The best part of the day for me, however, was simply being with our students. Their attitude throughout the day was great and their participation strong. I am very proud of them and of how they entered into the day. I look forward to a follow up visit with their class in the very near future. This coming week we celebrate the Feasts of All Saints and All Souls. We will have 2 Masses on All Saints Day, one at 8:15am and another at 6:30pm. During the evening Mass we will honor our deceased loved ones from throughout our lives, but in a special way, those from St. Jude who have passed during this past year. My thanks to our choirs for combining their efforts with music for this special Mass. I hope you can join us. Next Sunday afternoon Bishop Muench will be with us for the celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation with our eleventh graders. Congratulations to our students! And thank you so much to our Confirmation team for another great year! While I am away this weekend, Father Mike Schatzle of St. George and Father Ed Martin of St. Aloysius will be with you for Masses. I am very grateful to Father Mike and Father Ed for helping out! I hope you have a great week! Sincerely, Fr. Trey Nelson Pastor

White Ribbon against Pornography (WRAP) Awareness Week October 28 November 4 Most of us do not want to talk about pornography or even think about it; yet, it is a fast-growing industry. Pornography is circulated through many venues. Statistics show that the internet makes it easily accessible. Also, millions of emails are disseminated daily with pornographic or sexually explicit nuances and advertisements. WRAP s goal is to increase awareness of the negative impact pornography has not only on society but potentially our immediate family members. White ribbons/ bows will be displayed during awareness week. Please join us in saying No to pornography. Your Support of the BAA Meets Needs Throughout the Diocese A picture of your commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ and your regard for others, parishioners from St. Jude the Apostle Parish have prayerfully made the Bishop's Annual Appeal a priority, and that support is a great encouragement to your fellow parishioners, neighbors and friends. Our ability to address formidable challenges is possible because we serve as part of the great kingdom of God. "I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you" (Mt 17:20b). Moved by Faith, please pray about your participation in the BAA this year. Last week, Bishop Muench mailed a packet that includes helpful information concerning this year's campaign. In it, we celebrate your generosity during a challenging year for the diocese, and ask how God might bless our Catholic community going forward. Please be a part of that effort by choosing to contribute to the Bishop's Annual Appeal today. If you didn't receive a packet, please contact the Office of Stewardship at (225) 336-8790, or stewardship@diobr.org. Online donations may be made at www.baabr.org. On September 28 th, 2017 the St. Jude Knights of Columbus Council 9692, led by chief cook Percy Franklin, prepared a luncheon of red beans, ham, sausage, rice, salad, rolls, drinks and cake. The luncheon was served by the St Jude Catholic Daughters Regina Coeli Chapter to approximately 430 LSU students and staff at Christ the King Catholic Student Center. This tradition started in 2004 with the Knights & Catholic Daughters donating their services once a year. Special thanks to Blaine Sheets, Owner of Veron Smoked Sausage, who donated the sausage for this very delicious meal, as he has for many years in the past to feed the hungry young LSU Tigers. Photo and article submitted by Jerald Juneau (225) 766-3584 Eucharistic Minister Training Session St. Jude training session will be held on Monday, November 6 at 6:30 pm in Church and is required for all current Eucharistic ministers.
