The second program on March 21 will be presented by Mr. John Smith who is a member of the St Barnabas chapter of Saint Vincent de Paul. John will present a brief history of St Vincent de Paul as well as a descrip on of our chapter's ac vi es here at St Barnabas. Adults $7, Children/student $5, Family $30 max. KEEP HOLY THE SABBATH T here s no be er way to deepen our Lenten prac ce than to review the Ten Commandments. The first three, having to do with our right rela onship to God, get the most ink. The one we busy people probably have the most problem with is keeping holy the Sabbath. If we take this commandment literally, babies will go undiapered and dishes will stay on the table, or perhaps meals will not be served. The sick will go una ended and nothing that has anything to do with physical labor will be done. Is mental labor really work? How about changing that dirty diaper (poor baby!)? We need to depend on God to discern how to observe real Sabbath me in our lives. The point of this commandment is that God has given us a great gi : one whole day per week when we are free to rest, worship God, sing, feast, love, and rejoice. As Psalm 19 proclaims: The law of the Lord is perfect, / refreshing the soul (19:8). Our Sabbath rest is a great gi, to be received from God with joy, not with nitpicking. Copyright J. S. There are two races: a 5K and a 10K, both of which start and finish at ACS and run through the beau ful neighborhoods of North Asheville. A fun run will precede the start of the 5K and 10K. The 10K will start at 9:00 AM and the 5K at 9:15 AM. The Fun Run will begin at 8:30 AM. The event will be on St. Patrick s Day this year Saturday, March 17 giving everyone a perfect way to celebrate this fun holiday. This year, the St. Joseph s Day altar will be up from March 10 un l March 18. This year s table request is shaving cream, disposable razors, deodorant, shampoo, toothpaste & brushes, and facial soap. Each of these items comes in a men s and women s variety. These items cannot be purchased with food stamps and go a long way to helping our local poor with their bodily needs. Two boxes will be on the altar; one for monetary dona ons and one for prayer requests. The society will offer those inten ons during their prayer at their mee ngs. These dona ons will help provide Easter food boxes for our local poor as well as the boxes that are handed out every Thursday, and monetary aid with gas, electric, and rent.
