OUR GRAND KNIGHT S REPORT My Brother Knights, We are fast approaching February and are looking forward to spring, and an end to the cold weather we have been experiencing. January was a very successful month for the Council in all aspects. We had six Knights that attended the 2nd and 3rd degree Exemplification held at Precious Blood of Christ Parish, and received their 3rd Degree Knighthood. We welcome Frank Basch, Steven Jacko, Robert Leewe, Marcus Kabore, John Drust, Raymond St. Michel, and say "THANK YOU" for becoming a Knight and continuing on with your journey to full Knighthood. PGK John Fry, Membership Director MIke Urso, Don Maher, Ken Hein, Aelred Pereira, DGK Gil Cushing also, attended to show support of our fellow Knights. Please offer our new 3rd degree Knights your congratulations the next time you see them, and tell them" a job well done". The Knights of Columbus Unity and Fraternity Mass held on 1/12/14 at the 9 A.M. MASS was very successful, we had 62 Knights attend this first time adventure and hope to have more the next time it is scheduled. Thanks to Mr. Ken Pankowski for the time he spent setting this up and the speech he made on behalf of the Knights of Columbus. We have actually had three (3) people show interest in the Knights due to this Mass. All three were impressed by the Unity and the good works by the Knight of Columbus. We are looking at having this at least once a year or twice, depending upon the support and feedback we receive from the membership. At our January business meeting it was bought up on the floor to donate money to Father John Bosco Durisamys' father who was in need of a motorized wheel chair. The floor voted to contribute $300.00 dollars to this cause, we then passed the jar around and collected an additional $320.00 for this most worthy cause. After the meeting Mr. Ken Hein was approached by a Knight who asked to remain anonymous and offered to match our collected amount. We were able to present to the ministry sponsoring this, a check totaling $1220.00. On a sad note Father Johns father died before any presentation and Father John had to fly to India to be with his family. The monies collected will be given to Father John to help with the travel cost and his use. Again although this ended sadly, the Knights stepped forward as always, and showed that CHARITY is and always will be a main goal of the Knight of Columbus. Our Blood Drive run by this time by Domenico & Diana Falcone, with help from PGK John Luse proved very successful. They were able to collect 33 pints of blood for the Red Cross, although our goal was 44, we had six (6) that volunteered but were not able to give due to medical reasons. The one drawback was that there were sixteen (16) people that walked away when told they would have to wait about 1/2 hour. If you wish to give blood in the future you can call the Red Cross or the Knights Director and set up an appointment. You will then be allowed to go right in after registration. Special THANKS to Mr Joe Wanovich, who while giving blood was working the room and handed out a 100 form to an interested donor. We are always looking for new Knights and you might be surprised where you find one. Please don't forget the upcoming projects that need your support and help: Polish Dance 2/8/14, Irish Dance in March, Golf Tournament, Easter Church Parking, Project Hope (team captains needed), Back Pack for Kids ( needs help as well as food donations), also our state convention. I could go on and on about our great Council but will refrain now due to space in the Compass, but I would like to say "THANK YOU" to all the Knights and families that contributed one of our most precious commodity "TIME". And, by sharing this most valuable asset you will be rewarded one hundred fold, with a feeling of goodness that can only be felt when you give yourself to HELPING your fellow man. Thank you God Bless Council 8980 Vivat Jesus! Larry Berry, Grand Knight Breaking News!!! The Annual Survey forms sent to Ken Hein showed that 42% of our members contributed 17,170 Volunteer Hours in 2013. Also Council 8980 donated $35,040 to Charity in 2013.

Congratulations to: Knight of the Month January 2014- Brother Guy Frattini. A gentleman that has volunteered whenever called upon. You can call and ask this gentleman at all hours and he will be available. Recently we had to move a great deal of Knights material from one location to another. He was there from beginning to end, he is at every function setup as well as every clean up. Guy will stay until everyone else has left and make sure everything has been completed. He has told us that he is a Bocce Ball champion and would accept all challenger. Guy Frattini is a true Knight of the Month.

Knight Family of the Month January 2014- Brother John & Colleen Kokoska. Besides being very active in Church matters, they have taken on a roll that most of us would say " that is more than I really want to do". This roll requires a lot of communication through phone and computer. It also, requires a great deal of their personal time as well as driving back and forth, picking up and delivering. This family works so very hard so the Children of Tara Hall will have Christmas. Last year when someone forgot to bring back a gift tag, this wonderful couple went out and bought extra gifts so that this child would not be left out. John & Colleen Kokoska are a true Catholic Family. If it is because of a financial situation and you need help in taking care of this matter, please call GK Larry. By paying now, you will save me of having to send the 2 nd notice. You will be able to attend the February Membership meeting with your 2013 card, but that will be the last meeting, as you will need your 2014 card to gain entry to the March Membership Meeting.
