Descendants of GERSON MOSES from Frielendorf/Hesse Compiled by Barbara Greve - December 2014 1 GERSON MOSES was born in 1780 in Wehrda. He got his permission to settle in Frielendorf on 24 Jun 1812. The same year he married EVA LEISER (Hanne), born in 1790 in Oberaula and daughter of Leiser Wallach from Oberaula. The couple lived in Frielendorf. Gerson Moses died in Frielendorf on 28 Jan 1855 at the age of 76 years. Eva Moses died on 31 Jan 1862 in Frielendorf at the age of 72 years. Moses Gerson Moses married on 05 Aug 1846 in Hofgeismar FRADCHEN ADLER, born on 16 Oct 1818 in Hofgeismar as daughter of Simon Adler and Hannchen Steinberg. The couple lived in Frielendorf, Steinweg 35 (Hauptstr. 50). Moses Gerson Moses died on 03 Apr 1856 in Frielendorf, Fradchen Adler Moses died there on 01 Sep 1856. Both were buried in the old Frielendorf Jewish cemetery. 3 Moses Gerson Moses (Greve 2012) 1 There are different spellings of the name Süsmann in the different documents like Süßmann, Süsmann, Susmann, Sussmann etc. For standardize the spelling Süsmann is used in this family tree. 2 The marriage record of the Jewish community of Hofgeismar names him as born on 19 Oct 1813. Hesse Main State Archive Wiesbaden (HHStAW) Best. 365 Nr. 456. 3 The old Jewish cemetery of Frielendorf was founded in the middle of the 19th century. Formerly the Frielendorf Jews were buried in the Jewish cemetery of Ziegenhain-Niedergrenzebach. The old Frielendorf cemetery was destroyed from 1924 on by coal mining. Formerly all bodies and tombstones were transported to the new Frielendorf Jewish cemetery, which was founded in 1923.

Marianne Stern Moses died there on 09 Mar 1897 at the age of 30. Marianne Stern Moses (Greve 2012) Gerson Moses married a second time on 31 Aug 1898 in Gießen LINA LAMM from Obergleen. Mai Herr Gerson Moses seinen 70. Geburtstag. Der Jubilar erfreut sich sowohl in jüdischen wie in christlichen Kreisen größter Achtung und Beliebtheit. Seit vielen Jahren ist er in seiner Eigenschaft als Rendant Mitglied des Vorstandes der hiesigen Israelitischen Gemeinde. Tiefinnerliche Frömmigkeit, Einfachheit und Bescheidenheit, verbunden mit seltener Herzensgüte, unbedingte Redlichkeit und Ehrlichkeit im Handel und Wandel zieren den Charakter des Jubilars. Mit großer Verehrung sehen Verwandte, Freunde und seine Gemeinde zu ihm hinauf und wünschen ihm einen weiteren frohen Lebensabend. (Alles Gute) bis 120 Jahre. Although Lina Moses got a passport on 04 May 1936, she didn t used it. On 03 Apr 1938 Gerson and Lina Moses moved with her daughter Hedwig Moses and her grandson Hans Georg Moses from

Frielendorf to Dortmund. Later Gerson Moses was named for Frankfurt, Wöhlerstr. 6, a Jewish senior home. From there he had been deported on 18 Aug 1942 to Theresienstadt Ghetto. Gerson Moses did not suffer that transport and the same day died during the transport at the age of 83 years. Lina Lamm Moses, who was at the age of 67 that time, seems to have died just before or during the transport. Lina Moses is not noted as arriving in Theresienstadt Ghetto. 5 On 11 Jan 1946 Gerson and Lina Moses children placed this announcement in memory of their parents in the German Jewish newspaper AUFBAU. 13 SARA MOSES was born on 29 May 1861 in Frielendorf as daughter of Simon Gerson Moses and Betti Frank. She was married to ABRAHAM LORSCH, who was born on 16 Jan 1857 in Angenrod near Alsfeld. In 1932/33 the family lived in Alsfeld, Rittergasse 4. Abraham Lorsch died on 19 Mar 1927 in Alsfeld. He was buried in Alsfeld Jewish cemetery. Sara Moses Lorsch moved to Gießen, probably to the family of her son Gustav Lorsch. Further on she was named for Mainz and Darmstadt, Eschollbrücker Str. 4 ½, after 1939 a Jewish senior home. From there Sara Moses Lorsch was deported on 27 Sep 1942 to Theresienstadt Ghetto, where she perished on 23 Nov 1942. Her son Isidor Lorsch could escape with his family, her son Gustav Lorsch was deported with his wife and the two children to Treblinka, where they all were murdered. 30 Klara Lorsch b 12 Jul 1990 Alsfeld 31 Isidor Lorsch b 09 Apr 1993 Alsfeld 32 Gustav Lorsch b 24 Aug 1894 Alsfeld 14 SÜSMANN MOSES (Süsmann Moses II) was born on 29 Mar 1863 in Frielendorf as son of Simon Ephraim Moses and Betti Frank. He was married on 07 Feb 1894 ion Frielendorf to EMMA GUTKIND, who was born on 13 Dec 1870 in Frielendorf as daughter of Abraham Gutkind and Bertha Israel. The couple lived in Frielendorf, Steinweg 27. Süsmann Moses had had a shop for tissues and wool in Frielendorf. 7 Süsmann Moses died on 02 Sep 1922 in Frielendorf. Emma Gutkind Moses asked already in 1934 for a passport for emigration. But it lasted till 04 Oct 1937, before she could leave Frielendorf with her son Albert s family to Frankfurt/Main. After the emigration of Albert Moses family her address was a Jewish senior home in Reuterweg 91. For she had no own money left, she had to be cared by the Jewish welfare. Her last address was the Jewish hospital in Frankfurt/Main, Gagernstr. 36. From there she was deported on 18 Aug 1942 to Theresienstadt Ghetto, where she perished on 06 Sep 1943 at the age of 71. 8 AUFBAU, Friday, January 11, 1946 + 33 Siegfried Moses b 30 Oct 1894 Frielendorf + 34 Berthold Moses b 28 Sep 1895 Frielendorf + 35 Klara Moses b 29 Aug 1897 Frielendorf + 36 Hugo Moses b 29 Mar 1899 Frielendorf + 37 Albert Moses b 15 Jul 1900 Frielendorf + 38 Erna Moses b 18 May 1902 Frielendorf 22 HEDWIG MOSES 9 (Johanna Moses) was born on 06 Oct 1886 in Frielendorf as daughter of Süsmann Moses and Jeanette Löwenstern. She married on 08 Jan 1907 in Kassel 30 years old ADOLF LEVY (Levi), son of Moses Levi and Jettchen Wertheim from Melsungen. Adolf Levy died unknown date and place. Hedwig Moses emigrated on 08 Jul 1939 to the Netherlands (Amsterdam), as her son did from Colongne, too. Mother and son had been arrested in Westerbork concentration camp. From there Hedwig Moses Levy was deported in 1943 to Sobibor extermination camp, where she was murdered on 23 Jul 1943. Adolf Levy was deported on 13 Jul 1943 from Westerbork concentration camp to Sobibor extermination camp, where he was murdered on 16 Jul 1943. 8 Barbara Greve, Exil oder Tod. 27 KÄTHE MOSES was born on 19 Aug 1901 in Frielendorf as daughter of Gerson Moses and Lina Lamm. She emigrated with a regular passport to Amsterdam (Netherlands) on 15 Jul 1933. Further on she emigrated to the USA, where she lived in 227 Audubon Av., NYC. Kate Moses, as she called herself in the USA, was not married. She died in Ney York, USA. 28 MAX MOSES was born on 01 Jun 1904 in Frielendorf as son of Gerson Moses and Lina Lamm. He was twin to Hedwig Moses. Max Moses emigrated to rhe USA, where he married CILLY COHN, born in 1900 in Myslowitz, Poland. He died in Milwaukee, Milwaukee, WI, USA. 39 Hans-Georg Moses b 29 Apr 1936 Brüggen, Northr.-Westfalia 29 HEDWIG MOSES was born on 19 Aug 1904 in Frielendorf as daughter of Gerson Moses and Lina Lamm. She emigrated with a regular passport on 02 Apr/Sep 1933 to Amsterdam (Netherlands) and further on to the USA. Hedwig Moses was married on 02 Jul 1939 in New York, USA, to EMIL RISELSHEIMER, born on 01 Feb 1907 in Walldürn (Baden-Württemberg). Emil Reisheimer died in New York on 23 Feb 1983, Hedwig Moses Riselsheimer died there in November 1986. 33 SIEGFRIED MOSES was born on 30 Oct 1894 in Frielendorf as son of Süsmann Moses and Emma Gutkind. He took part in WW I at the 2. Inf. Reg. Nr. 86. Siegfried Moses died on 05 Dec 1916 in a battle in WW I. 34 BERTHOLD MOSES was born on 28 Sep 1895 in Frielendorf as son of Süsmann Moses and Emma Gutkind. Further on he lived till 1924 in Frielendorf. Berthold Moses was married to KLARA KATZENSTEIN, born 01 Dec 1887 in Frankenberg as daughter of Manus Moritz Katzenstein and Therese née Katzenstein. Berthold Moses took part in WW I. That time he was officer of soldier Heinrich Wedekind from Wendhausen. In a battle this man saved his life, being gravely hurt himself. Both men were brought to the same hospital in Jaroslau (today Poland), where they got friends. Further on Heinrich Wedekind, a shoemaker, worked for the shop of Berthold Moses in Wolfenbüttel. During WW II Heinrich Wedekinds son was catured in Russia. Therefore he heard foreign radio stations to know what happens at the Eastern Front. That fact was denunciated by forced laborers, who had to work in his shop. He was catured and condemned to death. On 27 November 1944 Heinrich Wedekind was executed in Brandenburg (Havel) prison. 10 From 1925 till July 1938 Berthold Moses had had a shoe shop in Wolfenbüttel (Lower-Saxonia), Am Alten Tor. 11 In August 1938 Berthold Moses emigrated with his wife and the two children to New York, USA. He retired in 1960.
