ST. HELEN CHURCH RIVERSIDE, OHIO November 13, 2016 CATHOLIC CAMPAIGN FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT (CCHD) Please Give Generously on Collection Week: November 21-22, 2015 In announcing the upcoming Year of Mercy, Pope Francis invites into the experience of opening our hearts to those on the fringes of society (Miserericordia Vultus, no.15). Archbishop Dennis Schnurr informs us that one of the best ways we can heed this call is to support the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. The U.S. Catholic bishops founded CCHD to end the cycle of poverty in the United States by funding organizations that help people to help themselves. Parishioner contributions last year made it possible for our 15 funded agencies in the Archdiocese to directly benefit over 3,400 poor and vulnerable members of our communities. CCHD organized them to create and sustain jobs, reenter society after prison, improve communities, advance education, invest in youth, and overcome poverty. You can help us be a Church of mercy to those on the fringes. Please prayerfully and generously consider how you will give on Collection Weekend, Nov. 21-22. Visit www.usccb.org/cchd to learn more. Also check out the Archdiocesan CCHD website for more local information: www.catholiccincinnati.org/ socialaction. ADVENT BY CANDLELIGHT Invite your female family members, friends, and neighbors for a Christ-centered preparation for the holiday season. This wonderful afternoon includes tea, small bites, and a wonderful time to quiet our hearts as we prepare for Advent. The event is Sunday, November 27 at 2:00 p.m., and this year, we will have an all-new theme and format. This year, using the method of Visio Divina ("divine seeing"), participants will view images of the O Antiphons and share, as they feel comfortable, what they see in the images. Using these reflections we will create ornaments that become our prayer and hope for the coming Christ. There is no charge but space is very limited. For more information or to sign up, visit www.sthelenparish.org/ advent-by-candlelight/ or contact Ellen Garmann in the parish offices. POPE FRANCIS DESIGNATES TODAY AS THE CLOSING CELEBRATION OF THE EXTRAORDINARY JUBILEE OF MERCY IN LOCAL CHURCHES We will celebrate this at our 10:30 Mass with some special prayers of thanks and the singing of the Magnificat, Mary s hymn of praise to God. The Years have beginnings and ends, but remember, that God s love and mercy are timeless, infinite. May we all continue to know mercy and show mercy to others!

ST. HELEN CHURCH RIVERSIDE, OHIO November 13, 2016 The cause for organ donation has hit home for several members of our parish community, including Pat McEntee who has been on the heart transplant waiting list for more than 26 months, and Pam Weese who recently received a donor kidney. Nearly 120,000 people are waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant. Every 10 minutes, another person is added to the waiting list for a life-saving organ transplant. Every day 22 people die waiting. One donor has the potential to save eight lives, bring sight to two people and heal the lives of fifty more through organ, eye and tissue donation. There is no age limit on who can register as a donor. One of the most powerful ways for individuals to demonstrate love for their neighbor is by making the informed decision to be an organ donor. St. Pope John Paul II 2296 Organ transplants are in conformity with the moral law if the physical and psychological dangers and risks to the donor are proportionate to the good sought for the recipient. Organ donation after death is a noble and meritorious act and is to be encouraged as a expression of generous solidarity. It is not morally acceptable if the donor or his proxy has not given explicit consent. Moreover, it is not morally admissible to bring about the disabling mutilation or death of a human being, even in order to delay the death of other persons. ~ Catechism of the Catholic Church MERCY CORNER Our featured Corporal Work of Mercy for November is Feed the hungry Watch for sales on Thanksgiving dinner foods.
