He loved reading his Bible, working crossword puzzles and playing card games. He was a retired bookkeeper. She was a member and devoted Christian at Herrens Chapel Church of Christ.

Helen was a retired cook. She cooked for the Meals on Wheels Program at the Senior Citizens, for King Salads, at Baxter Elementary School and retired from Upperman High School in Baxter. She was an excellent cook and loved cooking for family and friends. Bro. Johnny W. Fox and Bro. Phil Loftis will officiate. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. He was owner-operator of Jere Herren Auto Sales, Empire Homes, J.T. Herren Livestock Co. and J&M Farms. He was a farmer and member of Silver Point Church of Christ. His family includes a daughter and son-in-law, Dian Herren and Sammie Bow of Crossville; a son, Mike Herren of Baxter and fiancee Sandra Bachus; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Eunice Jones and Belle and Ivan Youngblood, all of Silver Point, Sue Rhea Nord of Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Bonnie Herren of Cookeville; a sister-in-law, Helen Herren of Baxter; two grandchildren, Stacey Evans and wife Melissa, Amy Laurene Herren; a great-grandchild, Elizabeth Evans; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Herren was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Jo Roberts Herren; his second wife, Laurene Waller Herren; a grandson, Jeremy Todd Evans; four sisters, Lucy Jones, Dorothy Martin, Lois Phillips and Mary Lou Herren; and two brothers, Howard and Zina Herren.

He was owner/operator of Ronnie Herren Construction Company. He enjoyed working with kids in the Baxter Little League and Jr. Pro Basketball and Football Programs. His family includes his wife of 50 years, Jimmie Mathis Herren of Silver Point (whom he married Aug. 31, 1960); two sons, Tommy Herren and Tony Herren, both of Silver Point; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Ernie Julian of Baxter and Tonya and Joey Wade, all of Silver Point; three sisters and brothersin-law, Jan and Bob Burton and Judy and Bill Harris, all of Silver Point, and Mary Nell and Loyd Shores of Baxter; six grandchildren, Amber, Hailey and Hunter Herren, Ethan Julian and Hope and Olivia Wade; a sister-in-law, Geraldine Herren of Silver Point; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Phillips died Monday, Dec. 13, 2010, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born Jan. 25, 1920, in Putnam County to the late General V. G.V. and Mary Thomas Herren. Mrs. Phillips was a retired school teacher for the Putnam County Board of Education, with 47 years of service. She taught at Herrens Chapel, Vaden, Silver Point, Carrs Chapel, Nash Chapel, Baxter Elementary and Upperman High School. She was a member of Silver Point Church of Christ. Her family includes two daughters and sons-in-law, Anita and William T. Smith, Melinda and Wayne Netherton, all of Silver Point; three sisters and A b rother-in-law, Eunice Jones and Belle and John Youngblood, all of Silver Point and Sue Ray Nord of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Jere Herren and Charles and Bonnie Herren; five grandchildren, Lionel Smith, Philip Smith and spouse Daka, Lorna Lee and spouse Shea, William Forrest Smith, and Stuart Murray and spouse Brittney; and six great-grandchildren, Danika and Colton Smith, Elliott and Audrey Lee and Liam and Ella Murray. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Wendell Phillips (who passed away May 13, 2006); three sisters, Mary Ann Herren, Dorothy Martin and Lucy Jones; and two brothers, Howard and Zina Herren. He enjoyed farming, driving tractors and was an avid Boston Celtics basketball fan.
