More About WILLIAM ALEXANDER: Probate: February 10, 1819 Will: November 1818, Bedford, Pennsylvania Notes for FIRST WIFE: According to William H. Hannum, The History of Bedford, Somerset and Fulton Counties, pg. 641, mentions that Mrs. William Alexander was among captives taken in Great Cove by INdians in the year following Braddock's defeat, (1755). Marriage Notes for WILLIAM ALEXANDER and FIRST WIFE: The History of Bedford, Somerset and Fulton Counties, pg. 641, mentions a Mrs. William Alexander as among 2

captives taken in Great Cove by Indians in the year following Braddock's defeat in 1754. That makes the year of capture 1755, and indicates William Alexander and his first wife were married at that time. More About WILLIAM ALEXANDER and FIRST WIFE: Marriage: Abt. 1755 Notes for ISABEL ALEXANDER: According to William Hannum's research in the late 1930s, Dr. John King's record of marriages for Mercersburg Church, located about 5 miles east of Great Cove, Pennsylvania, documents the marriage of William Alexander to his second wife Isabel Alexander. William Hannum felt this record indicates that William and Isabel may have been cousins. More About WILLIAM ALEXANDER and ISABEL ALEXANDER: Marriage: November 11, 1770 Marriage Notes for WILLIAM ALEXANDER and SUSANNAH: Record of Deeds, Bedford, Pennsylvania, J 23, shows a deed of Mar 24, 1807 for a tract that "William Alexander of Air Township & Susanna his wife hath sold". Also, Record of Deeds, P 342, a quit-claim deed of April 2, 1827, given by Susannah, widow of William Alexander, about January 1819. More About WILLIAM ALEXANDER and SUSANNAH: Marriage: Abt. 1795 Children of WILLIAM ALEXANDER and FIRST WIFE are: i. HUGH 3 ALEXANDER, b. Abt. 1767. Notes for HUGH ALEXANDER: Record of Deeds, Bedford, Pennsylvania (G 205, Feb. 14, 1805) mentions Hugh Alexander as a resident of Scott County, Kentucky; and two deeds (H 328, Sept. 16, 1811, and I J 34, Sept. 24, 1813) name him as of the State of 'Caintucky'. Record of Deeds, Georgetown, Scott County, Kentucky, has an entry of April 3, 1835, K 192, signed by the administrator of Hugh's estate, for sale of a tract on "the waters of Lane's Run". Several entries refer to the preemption of a tract in Scott County by William Alexander, on ein the year '179-'. William Hannum felt this suggests Hugh's occupancy of land in Scott County, Kentucky, was on land once owned by his father. In his research in the late 1930's, William Hamilton Hannum cited a letter signed by "your loving Sister Isabel Alexander, from Cove Bedford 12th April 1804 to Mary A., but addressed on the outside to Mr. Hugh Alexa... Scott C... ty favoured by Mr. Shannon". William Hannum indicated that this letter seems intended for Mary to forward to Hugh. 4. ii. MARY ALEXANDER, b. September 1769; d. March 01, 1843. Children of WILLIAM ALEXANDER and ISABEL ALEXANDER are: iii. POLLY 3 ALEXANDER, b. Abt. 1775; m. THOMAS MCCAMISH, March 13, 1804, Mercersburg, Pennsylvania; b. Unknown. Notes for POLLY ALEXANDER: William Hamilton Hannum quotes a letter of Isabel Alexander, dated April 12, 1804, which says that " sister Polly was in such a... Rumatick pains.' Hannum further states that the use of the names Mary and Polly for sisters is not explained. Polly, he notes, is usually a pet-name for Mary, but appears in this case to be representatives of some other name. The cited letter was found in the papers of Isabel's niece, Jane (Hamilton) Lowe.
