The MESSENGER August 2016 Volume 4, Issue 8 A Message from Pastor Jason White It is no secret that life is really challenging at times. We look around and see so much suffering in our world and it can cause us to ask so many questions. Where is God in all of this? Why do bad things happen to good people? But then suffering can become personal. We or someone close to us get cancer, lose a job, experience a divorce, or lose a family member or close friend. It can turn our world upside down, create panic, or send us into depression. It is scary and often that fear can cripple us. While there are certainly different degrees of suffering, we all suffer in some way throughout our lives. Some of you are suffering right now, others of you have suffered in the past, and for the rest of us something may be headed our way sometime soon or in the distant future. Suffering seems to be inevitable in this fallen world we live in. So beginning the first Sunday in August, we are going to enter into a new sermon series that deals with the topic of suffering. The Bible does not promise us a life without suffering when we become Christians, but it does have several things to say about how we walk through times of suffering. My prayer is that you ll make plans to be here throughout this series as we see how the Bible teaches us that we can find hope in suffering. Student Ministry I know many of you lifted up our students in prayer while we were at Youth Camp. Thank you for your prayers and encouragement. God worked in a mighty way in and through our students. The theme for camp was God is love. God worked through the speaker and band to help point our students to Christ and we were able to have great discussion with just our church group each night. During the week, ten students came to know God as their Lord and Savior and one student made the decision to go into full-time ministry! God is good! This month, we will have our incoming 6 th graders promote to the Student Ministry. We are excited to welcome them in and for them to be a part of the group. In His Love, Jared Cash Student/Associate Pastor 512.282.0875, x 22 jared@manchacabaptist.org From the desk of JOHN BERRYHILL, Pastor to Sr. Adults It s been a hot summer and we are all anticipating a cool down for fall. Just when it seems summer will never end the season turns and we begin a slow march to winter. Life, too, comes in many seasons and for each of them are unique difficulties particular to that season, but also provisions of grace and hope and joy. There are also people and relationships that come alongside and stick closer than a brother. Some of these relationships last through all the seasons and some are simply for a time. Either way, we do well to thank our Savior for the community He provides. Let s also be thankful for all that we are seeing and experiencing. In Christ, There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven. - Ecclesiastes 3 John Berryhill Pastor to Senior Adults & Pastoral Care 512.282.0875, x26 john@manchacabaptist.org S u m m e r has flown by and we are so excited about the 2016-2017 school year. This year we are launching new curriculum for our babies-kinder kiddos and are so excited about how God is going to show himself to the young ones in our MBC Kids program. The memory verse for August is Children s Ministry Romans 8:39 and it states, "Nothing can separate us from God's love." The focus for the whole month will be that verse and our prayer is that all kids hear that God loves them. We are excited about partnering with parents and providing valuable cue cards that will help you reinforce and discuss this month's theme and Bible verse to your kids. Thank you for partnering with me and MBC Kids. I am praying for a wonderful ministry year! Jenny Childress Children s Director 512-282-0875, x18 jenny@manchacabaptist.org Volume 4, Issue 8 Page 3
Worship Music Notes There are so many worship songs that have such rich meanings in the lyrics. We would like to invite you to reflect and meditate on the following. In Christ alone my hope is found, He is my light, my strength, my song; this Cornerstone, this solid Ground, firm through the fiercest drought and storm. What heights of love, what depths of peace, when fears are stilled, when strivings cease! My Comforter, my All in All, here in the love of Christ I stand. In Christ alone! who took on flesh Fulness of God in helpless babe! This gift of love and righteousness Scorned by the ones he came to save: Till on that cross as Jesus died, The wrath of God was satisfied - For every sin on Him was laid; Here in the death of Christ I live. There in the ground His body lay Light of the world by darkness slain: Then bursting forth in glorious Day Up from the grave he rose again! And as He stands in victory Sin's curse has lost its grip on me, For I am His and He is mine - Bought with the precious blood of Christ. No guilt in life, no fear in death, This is the power of Christ in me; From life's first cry to final breath. Jesus commands my destiny. No power of hell, no scheme of man, Can ever pluck me from His hand; Till He returns or calls me home, Here in the power of Christ I'll stand.
