PALM SUNDAY. P: Hosanna to the Holy Spirit, whose presence gives us power and peace!

Transcription:

Holy Communion & Prayer for Christian Healing Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest! (Matthew Chapter 21:9) Leader: Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth; All: Serve the Lord with gladness! Leader: Come before him with joyful songs; All: Give thanks to him and praise his name! Amen. Leader: During Lent we have been preparing for Easter. Our Lord Jesus Christ on this day entered the holy city of Jerusalem in triumph. The people welcomed him with palms and shouts of praise, but the path before him led to self-giving, suffering and death. Today we greet him as our King, although we know his crown is thorns and his throne a cross. We follow him this week from the glory of the palms to the glory of the resurrection, but we do so by the dark road of suffering and death. As we seek to be united with him in his suffering on the cross; may we share his resurrection and new life. All: Lord Jesus, you rode into your city in triumph on this day, receiving the shouts and the welcome of many people. Come into this church today. Receive our welcome and our acclaim. Come to rule in our hearts and minds and help us to go out to proclaim you as ruler over all.

Hymn All glory, laud, and honour to thee, redeemer, King, to whom the lips of children made sweet Hosannas ring. Thou art the King of Israel, thou David s royal Son, who in the Lord s name comest the King and blessed one. The company of angels are praising thee on high, and mortal men and all things created make reply. The people of the Hebrews with palms before thee went: our praise and prayer and anthems before thee we present. To thee before thy Passion they sang their hymns of praise: to thee now high exalted our melody we raise. Thou didst accept their praises: accept the prayers we bring, who in all good delightest, thou good and gracious King. Chorus Chorus Chorus Chorus Chorus:

Confession On Palm Sunday, the crowds worshipped Jesus; on Good Friday they shouted for him to die. Let us who also worship him, confess that we sometimes reject him, and ask his forgiveness: Lord Jesus Christ, you come to us in peace, but we sometimes shut the door of our mind against you. In your mercy: forgive us and help us. You come to us in humility, but we prefer our own proud ways. In your mercy: forgive us and help us. You come to us in judgement, but we cling to our familiar sins. In your mercy: forgive us and help us. You come to us in majesty, but we will not have you to reign over us. In your mercy: forgive us and help us. Lord, forgive our empty praise, fill our loveless hearts; come to us and make our lives your home for ever. Amen. (The Minister will proclaim the words of forgiveness) The Offering The people stand as the offering is brought forward and say; Give to us or take from us, conform our will to yours. May we not desire health or life except to spend them in service of you. Use all that we have to proclaim the good news of your kingdom, to cure the sick and relieve your suffering children, to the praise and glory of your holy name. Amen. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen Distribution of the Palms (Junior Church rejoin us and the palms are distributed, once everyone has one they are held aloft as the Minister proclaims the words of blessing) Let us give thanks to God our Creator. It is right to give you our thanks and praise. It is right to praise you, almighty God, for the way of love by which you have redeemed us through your Son, Jesus Christ our Saviour. As he entered Jerusalem as Messiah to suffer and to die, the Hebrews acclaimed Jesus the Messiah and King with palm branches in their hands, crying 'Hosanna in the highest.'

May your blessing be upon these palms as signs of his love for us and triumph over evil; and grant that we who bear them in his name may ever hail him as our King, and follow him in the way that leads to eternal life; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen. God our Saviour, whose Son Jesus Christ entered Jerusalem as Messiah to suffer and to die; let these palms be for us signs of his victory and grant that we who bear them in his name may ever hail him as our King, and follow him in the way that leads to eternal life; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. The Ministry of the Sacrament The Peace Minister: Christ is our peace. He has reconciled us to God in one body by the cross. We meet in his name and share his peace. The peace of the Lord be always with you. All: And also with you. Minister: The Lord be with you All: And also with you The Prayer of Thanksgiving Minister: Lift up your hearts All: We lift them to the Lord Minister: All: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God It is right to give him thanks and praise Gracious God, you have loved us from the beginning of time and remembered us when we were in trouble. Your mercy endures for ever.

Redeeming God, You have come to us in Jesus Christ, to save us from our sins. Your mercy endures for ever. Holy God, You have sent us your Spirit, to comfort us and lead us into all truth. Your mercy endures for ever. And now we give you thanks because you provide medicine to heal our sickness, and the leaves of the tree of life for the healing of the nations, anointing us with your healing power so that we may be the first-fruits of your new creation. Therefore with angels and archangels. and with all the company of heaven, we proclaim your great and glorious name, for ever praising you and singing: All: (Sung) Holy, holy, holy, holy holy, holy, Lord God Almighty! and we lift our hearts before you, as a token of our love: holy, holy, holy, holy! Holy Spirit, Holy Spirit, come and fill our hearts anew, Holy Spirit! and we lift our voice before you, as a token of our love, Holy Spirit, Holy Spirit. On the night before he died, Jesus had supper with his disciples. He took bread, gave thanks, broke it, and gave it to them, saying, Take this and eat it. This is my body given for you. Do this in remembrance of me. After Supper he took the cup of wine, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink from it all of you. This is my blood of the new covenant, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sins. Do this in remembrance of me.

All: (sung) He is Lord, he is Lord, he is risen from the dead and he is Lord! Every knee shall bow, every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. Father, pour out your Holy Spirit that these gifts of bread and wine that they may be for us the body and blood of Christ. In union with him, we offer ourselves to you that, strengthened by the Spirit we may be signs of your life and love, as we await the coming of his kingdom of justice and peace. Minister: The bread we break is a sharing in the body of Christ. All: Though we are many, we are one body because we all share in one bread. Minister: Jesus Christ is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. In the name of God most high receive Christ s healing touch to make you whole in body, mind and spirit. All: Lord, I am not worthy to receive you, but only say the word, and I shall be healed. Most merciful Lord, your love compels us to come in. Our hands were unclean our hearts were unprepared; we were not fit even to eat the crumbs from under your table. But you, Lord, are the God of our salvation, and share your bread with sinners. So cleanse us and feed us with the precious body and blood of your Son, that he may live in us and we in him; and that we, with the whole company of Christ, may sit and eat in your kingdom. Amen. Draw near with faith. Receive the body of our Lord Jesus Christ, which was given for you, and his blood which was shed for you. Eat and drink in remembrance that he died for you, and feed on him in your hearts by faith with thanksgiving. Amen.

After Communion Let us pray Gracious God, we thank you that you have nourished us with the bread of life and the cup of salvation. Renew us day by day until, with all your people on earth and in heaven, we come to fullness of life in your kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Hymn Make Way 457 Children may process with the palms they have made Blessing Minister: Go in peace to love and serve the Lord All: In the name of Christ. Amen.
