THE SERVICE FOR THE LORD S DAY Gathering Music Trumpet Tune in G Second Sunday after Epiphany January 14, 2018 ASSEMBLE IN GOD S NAME Roberts Prayer of Preparation (you may wish to prepare for worship by praying silently) Holy God, you sent your son to be the light of the world, so that all may know the brightness of your love. Fill us with your grace this day that we too may bear witness to his light and serve your coming reign. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. Chiming of the Hour Greeting and Announcements Call to Worship (responsive) Sing to the Lord a new song: Sing to the Lord, all the earth. The Lord is about to do a new thing. Speak, O God, for your servants are listening. Come, let us worship the Lord, our God! * Hymn of Praise 299 You Servants of God, Your Master Proclaim * Call to Confession * Prayer of Confession (unison) Wes Brooks God of glory, we confess that we have not sought your face. We labor for worldly things and lack in spiritual gifts. We sacrifice much for false idols and forsake your holy Lamb. Forgive us; give us grace. Take away the sin of the world and teach us, as disciples, to show the wonder of your love in Jesus Christ our Lord. Hear this our prayer as well as the confession we make now in silence. * Assurance of Pardon * The Congregation s Response: Gloria Patri Hymn 581 Presentation THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Victoria Cruz Roberts Ruling Elder Robin Roberts

Confession of Faith * Affirmation of Faith: (unison) (Hymnal pg. 35) I believe in God, the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and life everlasting. Amen Prayer of Thanksgiving over the Water The Baptism Welcome Baptismal Hymn 488 I Was There to Hear Your Borning Cry Prayer for Illumination PROCLAIM GOD S WORD First Lesson 1 Samuel 3:1-20 (pew Bible pg. 215) The Word of the LORD. Thanks be to God! Anthem He Comes to Us as One Unknown arr. Michael Burkhardt He comes to us as one unknown, a breath unseen, unheard: As though within a heart of stone, or shriveled seed in darkness sown, A pulse of being stirred, a pulse of being stirred. He comes when souls in silence lie and thoughts of day depart; Half seen upon the inward eye, a falling star across the sky Of night within the heart, of night within the heart. He comes to us in sound of seas, the ocean s fume and foam; Yet small and still upon the breeze, a wind that stirs the tops of trees, A voice to call us home, a voice to call us home. He comes in love as once he came by flesh and blood and birth; To bear within our mortal frame a life a death, a saving Name, For every child of earth, for every child of earth.

He comes in truth when faith is grown; believed, obeyed, adored: The Christ in all the scripture shown, unseen, yet known, Our Savior and our Lord, our Savior and our Lord. Second Lesson John 1:43-51 (pew Bible pg. 863) Sermon Come and See Rev. Dr. Christopher Crotwell GIVE THANKS TO GOD * Hymn of Thanksgiving 833 O Love That Will Not Let Me Go Prayers of the People The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. Call for the Offering Offertory All the Way My Savior Leads Me * The Doxology Hymn 606 * Prayer of Dedication GO IN GOD S NAME * Hymn of Consecration 69 I, the Lord of Sea and Sky * Charge and Benediction Hegarty * Postlude Little Prelude and Fugue in G Bach * Please stand at the * as you are able.
