Happy Labor Day by Father Michael A few weeks ago, I expressed my hopes for having a parish clean-up day. It will be Saturday, September 16th, from 9AM to 2PM. The scope of our efforts will depend upon how many workers we have. Some of the areas will involve simple weeding. Other projects may require heavy trimming and clearing out some overgrown corners. If you are able to lend a helping hand, we ask that you call the Parish Office or fill out the form on the bottom of this page and drop it in the collection basket. We would like to offer lunch for the workers, so it will be helpful to know how many we should prepare for. Somewhat related to this, is repairing the sign we have in the courtyard. Near the entrance to the offices is a sign identifying the building as the Fr. Bill Breslawski Pastoral Center. I have been told the sign was a deep burgundy when it was new. Now, it is a pale lavender with lots of white chips. Does anyone have any ideas how this sign can be restored? With the recessed letters and the plastic PVC material it is probably more complicated than slapping a coat of paint on it. I am open to suggestions with this one. If it is beyond repair, it will need to be replaced. I also mentioned a few weeks ago that I was going to enhance our sanctuary lamp by the tabernacle. As you can see, that project is underway. The red candle by the tabernacle is temporary until our old sanctuary is wired and installed. It should be complete in two weeks. Our own Deacon Ralph will be expanding his ministry. He will be part of the Diaconate Formation Program. His official title is Formator. It is a bit of an unusual title, but the work is very important. He will serve as a mentor to the men who are in formation. This is an official appointment that he received from Bishop Barres for a term of four years. Most of his involvement with the program will be on Saturdays, so his time away from the parish should be limited. We congratulate him on this assignment and wish him well as he begins this new part of his diaconal service to the Church. We need the help of those of you who are involved in ministry. About 2 months back, we sent all volunteers forms about being rescreened and a back-ground check. This is a requirement of the Diocese (and in fact, all dioceses throughout the U.S). We still have over 100 forms that we need back. We appreciate your cooperation in providing this necessary information. Enjoy the Labor Day weekend. It s back to school time for the kids! Name Email Phone I would like to help between 9AM and 2PM on clean-up day, September 16th. I will I will not be staying for lunch. 3
