During the singing of the Polyeleos, the priest censes the altar, sanctuary, and royal doors. During the first singing of the magnification, he censes the icon of the saint. During the singing of the resurrectional evlogitaria The assembly of angels, he censes the iconostasis, faithful, and the rest of the church. Note: in some places, when there is a celebration of a major saint with a magnification on Sunday, the magnification is sung only once, followed at once by the resurrectional evlogitaria. But if the magnification is repeated with the singing of the appointed selected psalm verses, then on Sundays the final Glory now and ever Alleluia (3x) is postponed till the end of the evlogitaria.)

Instead of God is the Lord: Alleluia, tone 8 with verses of the departed. (See panikhida book, or book of needs.) Troparion, tone 8: O only Creator, who with wisdom profound (2x); GNE; Theotokion: We have you as a wall.... Kathisma 16. Small litany (usual, not of the departed). Sessional hymns from the octoechos in tone of the week. GNE: Theotokion from the octoechos. Then royal doors are opened, and according to the usual practice, the priest goes to the center of the nave where has been prepared a table with a vigil light, or candles, for the departed, and an offering of wheat (kolyva) or rice placed there. Kathisma 17 ( Blessed are the blameless ) is divided into two stases or parts. At each stasis, we omit the usual ending: Lord have mercy (3x) GNE Alleluia (3x). But with each stasis, we sing the last two verses of the stasis three times: chanting the one and then the other, and then repeating the pair twice more. During the reading of the 1st stasis, the choir very softly and slowly sings continually: Blessed art thou, O Lord,
teach me thy statutes. After the first stasis, little litany for the departed, with the censer as usual. After the priest says, Let us pray to the Lord, the choir sings softly Lord have mercy 40 times while the priest reads the prayer. After the exclamation, the 2nd stasis of Kathisma 17 is read, and the choir very softly and slowly sings continually: Save me, O Savior. After 2nd stasis, we immediately (omitting GNE Alleluia ) sing the evlogitaria of the dead (as in panikhida): Blessed art thou, O Lord and The choir of the saints have found... in tone 5, in the usual melody for the departed. During this, priest makes a half censing of the church. Little litany of the departed (same way as after the 1st stasis). After the exclamation, the clergy return to the sanctuary, and the royal doors are closed. Sessional hymn, tone 5: Give rest with the just... GNE: O Christ our God Psalm 50. Canons: of the temple, with irmos on 6 (irmos sung twice), and triodion on 8. Biblical canticles: Let us sing to the Lord... Katavasias: triodion. Before the troparia of the triodion canon, we say Give rest, O Lord, to the souls of your departed servants and before the final two of each ode, Glory: and Now & ever. entirely for the saint. The order of service is that for a vigil-rank saint outside of great lent. At great vespers and at the divine liturgy nothing is used from the triodion. 3 February 15 / 28 Friday of Cheesefare St Basil the Confessor. The pattern for the service is identical to Wednesday (see above). Texts come from: the octoechos for Friday, tone 2; menaion for February 15; and the Lenten Triodion: Supplementary texts for Thurs evening and Friday in cheese week. Kathisma 15 is read at vespers; kathismas 19 and 20 at matins. At 6th hour, reading: Zechariah 8:7-17. Divine Liturgy is not served. 3 The lenten triodion aposticha verses (idiomela) for the day that would otherwise sung at vespers are moved to small vespers. Those that would be sung at matins are sung at the matins praises along with those of the saint. The triodion canon and three-canticled canons are sung at another time in advance of the day. If St Raphael is celebrated as a polyeleos-rank saint, somewhat more material from the triodion is incorporated into the service.
