There will be no meeting January 3rd. Wishing you all a happy and blessed Christmas. ~Pat Antonick KEEP CHRIST IN CHRISTMAS! Sunday of the Holy Forefathers On this Sunday the Church commemorates the Holy Forefathers, i.e. the earthly ancestors of our Lord Jesus Christ, beginning with the first man, Adam, and on through Seth, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, King David, and others. These ancient people, separated from us by millennia, nevertheless have a direct and close bearing upon us, contemporary Orthodox Christians. What connection is there between them and us? In general, the Church brings them to our attention now, right before Christmas, largely because of their faith their belief in the promise given by God to Adam during his expulsion from the garden of Eden, that in the end a Saviour will come into the world and will redeem mankind from original sin. All the forefathers who lived on earth long before the birth of Christ lived and burned with this faith, never allowing it to be extinguished. They are a shining example to us, who are living on earth after the incarnation of our Lord. Just like those ancient people we, too, have never actually seen Christ: they only knew that He would come into the world, while we know that He did come into the world. But they firmly believed in His coming and their faith was justified.
Christmas Preparation Our preparation for Christmas should truly lend ourselves to a complete renewal. By the grace of God, this could and should be a Christmas like no other! Let us prepare by striving to understand what Christ's coming into the world means. Let us reconcile ourselves to God through Confession. It is easy to be swept away by all the trappings of the season, but the believer must not lose the infinite worth found in Christ. As you prepare your home this season, be sure preparation is made to spend time with your Saviour through meditation on His word and prayer, for no heart is as full as the heart that is filled with Christ. Tax Receipts For 2017 As we approach the end of the year, you may wish to review your offering envelopes to see if postponed or overlooked any that you want to make up before the books are closed on December 31st. 2017. Twas the night before Jesus came and all thro the house Not a creature was praying, not one in the house, Their Bibles were lain on the shelf without care In hopes that Jesus would not come there. The children were dressing to crawl into bed, Not once ever kneeling or bowing a head, And Mom in her rocker with the baby on her lap, Was watching the late show while I took a nap. When out of the East there arose such a clatter, I sprang to my feet to see what was the matter, Away to the window I flew like a flash, Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash! When what to my wondering eyes should appear, But angles proclaiming that Jesus was here! With the light like the sun sending forth a bright ray, I knew in a moment this must be THE DAY! The light of His face made me cover my head, It was Jesus! returning just like He said. And though I possessed worldly wisdom and wealth, I cried when I saw Him in spite of myself. Twas The Night Before... In the Book of Life which He held in His hand, Was written the name of every saved man, He spoke not a word as He searched for my name; When He said, It s not here my head hung in shame. The people whose names had been written with love, He gathered to take to His Father above, With those who were ready He rose with no sound, While all of the rest were left standing around. I fell to my knees, but it was too late; I had waited too long and thus sealed my fate, I stood and cried as they rose out of sight, Oh, if only we had been ready tonight! In the words of this poem the meaning is clear; The coming of Jesus is drawing near! There s only one life and when comes the last call We ll find that the Bible was true after all!
