FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH LED BY CHRIST, TOGETHER IN FAITH AND LOVE, WE JOYFULLY THINK, QUESTION, GROW AND SERVE! RESURRECTION OF THE LORD EASTER SUNDAY March 27, 2016 *for those who wish to stand Bold print indicates congregational participation GATHERING AROUND GOD S WORD PRELUDE Easter Variations *CALL TO WORSHIP One: Mary Magdalene discovered the empty tomb. All: Alleluia! One: Peter ran to the tomb and was amazed. All: Christ is risen! One: God raised Christ from the dead on the third day. All: Alleluia! Christ is risen indeed! One: Sisters and brothers in Christ, let us worship God. Amanda Michaelis *OPENING HYMN Jesus Christ Is Risen Today #232 During the singing of the hymn, you are invited to bring flowers forward to the cross, so that it is transformed from a symbol of death, shame and sin into a blooming representation of life and the risen Lord Jesus Christ. CALL TO CONFESSION PRAYER OF CONFESSION Almighty God, in raising Jesus from the grave, you shattered the power of sin and death. We confess that we remain captive to doubt and fear, bound by the ways that lead to death. We overlook the poor and the hungry, and pass by those who mourn; we are deaf to the cries of the oppressed, and indifferent to calls for peace; we despise the weak, and abuse the earth you made. Forgive us, God of mercy. Help us to trust your power to change our lives and make us new, that we may know the joy of life abundant given in Jesus Christ, the risen Lord.

LITANY OF ASSURANCE One: God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed. All: Everyone who believes in Jesus Christ receives forgiveness of sins through this name. One: They put Jesus to death by hanging him on a tree; but God raised Jesus on the third day and made him manifest. All: Everyone who believes in Jesus Christ receives forgiveness of sins through this name. One: And Jesus commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that he is the one ordained by God. All: Everyone who believes in Jesus Christ receives forgiveness of sins through this name. SUNG RESPONSE TO PARDON Gloria Patri #581 Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, amen. WELCOME THE CHILDREN This, this is where children belong, welcomed as part of the worshiping throng. Water, God s Word, bread and cup, prayer, and song: This is where children belong. CHILDREN S TIME Rev. Rebecca Chancellor Children may bring their OGHS Fish Banks to the front of the Sanctuary. (Children may now be seated with their parents or those 5 and younger may leave for the nursery) PROCLAIMING GOD S WORD PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION Shelby Dickson EPISTLE READING 1 st Corinthians 15:19-26 (pg 236, NT) One: This is the Word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God. ANTHEM To the Lamb On the Throne Forrest GOSPEL READING John 20:1-18 (pg 155, NT) One: This is the Word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God. SERMON Suppositions Rev. Charlie Smith

RESPONDING TO GOD S WORD *AFFIRMATION OF FAITH The Apostles Creed I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried. He descended into hell. The third day, he rose again from the dead and ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. *AFFIRMATION HYMN Thine Is the Glory #238 PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE THE LORD S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. GIVING OF OUR GIFTS Opportunities to serve this week Minute for Mission: Youth Mission and Triennium Invitation to Give (Please sign the Act of Friendship sheet and pass it down the pew) FPC Youth OFFERTORY Worthy Is The Lamb Choplin *DOXOLOGY Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow #606 Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise God, all creatures here below; Praise God above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
