Psalm He who does justice will live in the presence of the Lord (Psalm 15). Second Reading The mystery hidden from generations past has been manifested; it is Christ in you, the hope for glory (Colossians 1:24-28). Gospel Jesus converses with Martha and Mary about service and contemplation (Luke 10:38-42). READINGS FOR THE WEEK Monday: Ex 14:5-18; Ps 63:2-6, 8-9; Jn 20:1-2, 11-18 Tuesday: Ex 14:21 15:1; Ex 15:8-10, 12, 17; Mt 12:46-50 Wednesday: Ex 16:1-5, 9-15; Ps 78:18-19, 23-28; Mt 13:1-9 Thursday: 2 Cor 4:7-15; Ps 126:1bc-6; Mt 20:20-28 Friday: Ex 20:1-17; Ps 19:8-11; Mt 13:18-23 Saturday: Ex 24:3-8; Ps 50:1b-2, 5-6, 14-15; Mt 13:24-30 Sunday: Gn 18:20-32; Ps 138:1-3, 6-8; Col 2:12-14; Lk 11:1-13 LISTEN The first reading tells of the annunciation of the birth of Isaac. It is profoundly mysterious, beginning with the appearance of the three men. This reading illustrates God s active role in our history. The second reading treats a universal experience suffering. Paul sees suffering as the mark of discipleship. He finds joy in the suffering he endures because it is for the sake of the church. Through his preaching he hopes all people will come to accept Christ. The Gospel paints a lovely picture of Jesus at rest among his friends. Luke has placed the incident right after the parable of the Good Samaritan. But lest activism be seen as the only path, we now hear Jesus call to sit quietly and listen to the word of God. We have to be like both of the sisters. Even in our harried and noisy world, there is an insistent call to sit back quietly and listen to Jesus. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co.

We Provide the Roof Over Their Heads They Make It Their Home If it wasn t for Catholic Charities, I would probably be in a nursing home, a resident confessed. I wouldn t have independence. I would have signed myself into a nursing home when I got this lung condition. Instead, she goes to Bingo twice a week, the beach during the summer, is part of a crocheting club, and helps serve the meals for others residents at Mary s Manor. On Long Island, it can be difficult for seniors to find affordable housing. About 30 years ago, Catholic Charities took on that mission and opened 16 housing sites with 13,000 residents. Mary s Manor in Inwood is the second oldest community of housing maintained by Catholic Charities. It serves 122 seniors and includes an Enriched Living Experience for 28 seniors who need a little extra care. It s a fabulous place. We have a senior birthday meeting every month. We have music. There are things to do. The crocheting club I belong to is run by a 97 year-old woman and we crochet blankets for children who have cancer in local hospitals. Without this, what would I do? I can t run around now. I really love it here, the resident confessed. Through support of the Catholi Ministries Appeal, you help men and women on Long Island to live in safe, secure, affordable housing. Thank you for your generosity! Our pilgrimage will be a day-long journey of faith to honor Mary, to seek her help and protection and to ask God to shower upon us His Spirit for our earthly life here on Long Island. We will leave St. Isidore s at 6:30 AM and return approximately at midnight with stretch stops along the way. Please call the rectory (727-2114) to reserve your seat for this journey of faith.
