Today s readings invite us to explore these beliefs. The passage from Second Maccabees makes it clear that belief in the resurrection of the dead was not born in Christianity, but in a time preceding Jesus coming. The martyred brothers proclaim their conviction that God will raise them to new life. No threat of death can bring them to break one of their religious laws. Death of their bodies is no death at all, compared to the spiritual death that would result from transgressing the law. The silly riddle about marriage put to Jesus in the Gospel gives him an opportunity to speak of the coming age, when no one will be given in marriage, and no one will be liable to death. Jesus too stresses how ancient is this teaching, attributing this belief to Moses, who knew that God is the God of the living. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co.

Fathers regret their lost fatherhood and can feel like failures. Grandparents grieve their lost grandchildren. Friends who supported their friends choices years ago now question whether they did the right thing. Ours is an abortion-wounded nation. But God s loving mercy is great certainly greater than any abortion, and even greater than the millions of abortions committed to date. Through the mercy of Jesus own suffering, God wants to heal and restore all who have been involved in abortion. 4 MEET THE AUTHOR Dr. Ewa Kurek Sunday, November 17th After all Masses, Church Reception Room Our Lady of Poland Church, Southampton Polish historian Dr. Ewa Kurek will be here to promote and sign her newest book Polish-Jewish Relations ; Beyond the Limits of Solidarity. This book is available in English and Polish. Dr. Kurek received her doctorate in history from the Catholic University of Lublin, Poland, where Pope John Paul II taught philosophy and theology. Her research on the subject of Polish-Jewish relations in WWII Poland has been presented at several international academic congresses, including Yad Vashem, Jerusalen (1988), Princeton University (1993) and Columbia University (2007).

If Catholic Hospitals, Charities, Universities and Schools do not offer contraception, sterilization and abortion-inducing drugs in their health insurance, they face crushing fines. As of January 1, 2014, the fine for non-compliance is $ per day, per employee. Will any of our Catholic institutions survive? Michael Orsi of the Ave Maria School of Law in Naples, Florida, says about the HHS mandate, For us, that is a moral aberration. It is something that we cannot do. And why is it being pushed on us? Because if we do not obey, then our Catholic colleges, and our hospitals, and our Catholic outreach institutions will be fined and eventually closed down.
