Lifestyle Is Art Staff writer The hip-hop culture has influenced the entire world in many different ways. For Preston Wasson, the founder of the Young Executives, Hip-Hop has influenced him to pursue a career in fashion, music and event coordinating. Most of his events have a cool hip-hop vibe. Preston believes that, The culture of hip-hop is bold...i created the Young Executives, because I didn t want to sell myself short by saying I m just a promoter. Life is art sounds cliche but its fitting when describing Preston. The reason he hates being called a promoter or rapper is because he demands respect as a businessman. We do not call Pablo Picasso a painter he was an ARTIST. Preston wants his brand, Young Executives to embody all of his talents while helping to build a community of Young Executives in Iredell County. Born and raised in the housing projects of Belmount (East Statesville), in the 90 s,
My message to people of all ages is about the awareness of how important is it to be educated. Preston would watch the nicest cars and people with the newest clothes gather at Belmount Park every Sunday. As the years went by, the City put an end to it due to gun shots, fights and other illegal activity. Preston Recalls, The park was empty, the basketball court might have any occasional pick up game but nothing like before. While in middle school, Preston and his mom moved to Cool Springs Road. This was a life changing experience for Preston as he went from being a popular kid in the hood, to being surrounded by cows, trees and quietness. It shaped me into the man I am today. It gave me the balance that I believe every man needs in order to be successful. Growing up in the projects around the hiphop culture gave me the edge and confidence I needed in order to be successful.i love the look on peoples faces when they see me and my friends dressed in our flashy colored sweat shirts or a fittedhat, I literally watch their perceptions change when we speak with depth and intelligence. Growing up with his mom, he listened to R&B artist such as R.Kelly, Keith Sweat, and New Edition. When asked about his favorite artist, Preston stated, I was 9 years old when 2pac was killed in 1996. Side note, most 2pac fans know what they were doing when 2pac died. We all wanted the cars and jewelry that the hip-hop culture showed us. My message to people of all ages is about the awareness of how important is it to be educated. Education about business and culture. That is why i plan events that will allow local business owners to get exposure and it teaches the kids about the culture of Statesville, NC. The way it was in the 90s for me as a kid. Fashion is a universal language and with this in mind, Preston has goals of selling his merchandise internationally. The Young Executives sales strategy is to create empowering phrases and slogans that will catch peoples attention. After coming in contact with anything produced by the Young Executives, people should feel motivated and encouraged about something in their life. Preston concluded the interview by saying, one day a kid will be the class clown, after this message is downloaded into their psyche they will transform into a president, a leader, a giver, someone who inspires people to be better no matter what that person went through in their past.
