St. Mary of Czestochowa Church Established 1914 201 Vosseller Avenue Bound Brook, New Jersey 08805 REV. LEON S. ANISZCZYK, PASTOR Rev. John Stec, Parochial Vicar BAPTISMS: Every third Sunday of the month at 12:00. Parents are expected to attend Pre-Baptismal Classes. Arrangements to be made at the Parish Office. Only practicing Catholics may act as Godparents. MARRIAGES: Specific time is set for the celebration of marriage on Saturdays. The common Policy for all the Dioceses of New Jersey requires a period of preparation for the sacrament of Marriage, which includes sessions with the parish priest and attendance at either the Pre-Cana conferences or the Engaged Encounter Weekend. Therefore, arrangements are to be made at least one year in advance and before any social plans are finalized. FIRST PENANCE, FIRST EUCHARIST, CONFIRMATION: Though immediate preparation is given to children before receiving these sacraments, it is expected that children receive a Christian education within their family life, through formal religious education classes, and by attending Sunday worship services. Second Reading - Christ has raised you to new life, so seek now what is above. Gospel - Be on guard against all greed, for your life does not consist of earthly possessions, but of the riches of the reign of God Rich, but not wealthy? Today Jesus speaks of the riches of heaven, as compared to earthly riches. There s no pocket in the shroud is a good old Irish saying. As with the Beatitudes, he is speaking about the poor in spirit. In other words, I could have a lot of wealth, but it does not possess me, nor am I enslaved by it. He tells us about something we all know too well. The first million will never satisfy! It may be the most difficult to make, but it can generate a compulsion to accumulate more, driven with the desire to go one better. We really should distinguish between wealth and riches. Some of the richest people I know have little of this world s goods. There are no greater riches than a loving, kind heart. Money couldn t buy the gifts that bring happiness. It is such a simple lesson, but one we will never learn it if we refuse to open our heart to it. When we die, we have to let go of everything. I was at the bedside of a wealthy woman when she died, a person with a reputation for minding the pennies. She had no family of her own, so there was no shortage of interest as to where her wealth was going to go. ( Where there s a will, there are relatives! ). One of her staff whispered I wonder how much did she leave?, and another quietly replied, She left everything.

D M The St. John Neumann Pastoral Center P.O. Box 191 Metuchen, NJ 08840-0191 (732) 765-6432 (732)765-6431 ~ Prayer Line Email: catholicswithdisabilities@gmail.com OFFICE OF THE BISHOP OFFICE FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES Greetings to all, July 26, 2016 Today, July 26, 2016 marks the 26th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990 by then President George Bush. This important milestone has changed the lives of persons with disabilities in a multitude of valuable ways. People who use wheelchairs, for example, now have barrier-free access to places that would have been unimaginable before 1990 including government facilities, retail stores, restaurants and office buildings. More "handicap" parking options as well as other access such as cutaway curbs all contribute to important changes for persons with disabilities. Other positive changes include obligations placed on employers to avoid discrimination against persons with disabilities. Educational facilities are likewise obliged to offer appropriate assistance to persons with special needs (including matters of hearing, sight, cognitive and other challenges). Those who live with special needs and their loved ones know how much more needs to be accomplished (both within and outside the Church). Curiously, the greatest challenge remains that of changing people's hearts so that they may come to realize the intensity of difficulty that people with disabilities face each day. It is only when people truly comprehend the many challenges will their doors open wider to greater accessibility for all, (including those with the ongoing problem of untreated mental illness). Our Diocesan Office for Persons with Disabilities remains a resource for parishes so that together we may have a more profound impact in helping to justly implement the Americans with Disabilities Act. Further, as a prophetic voice, we as a ministerial arm of the Church wish to offer ways to extend the Americans with Disabilities Act to include all those with special needs (those in the light and those still living in the shadows). How to pray the Our Father prayer.. I cannot say our if I live only for myself. I cannot say Father if I do not approach God like a child. I cannot say who art in heaven if I am not laying some treasure there right now. I cannot say Hallowed be thy name if I am careless with that name. I cannot say Thy kingdom come if I am not working to actualize it in the here and now. I cannot say Thy will be done if I am resentful of that will for me at that moment. I cannot say on earth as it is in heaven if I don t look on heaven as my future home. I cannot say Give us our daily bread if I am overanxious about tomorrow. I cannot say Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us if I am waiting to settle a score with someone. I cannot say Lead us not into temptation if I deliberately put myself in a place to be tempted. ( A perceptive individual teaches that it is a smart person who flees temptation and does not leave a forwarding address.) I cannot say Deliver us from evil if I am not prepared to pray as though every thing depends on God and work as though everything depends on me.
