ADVENT ADORATION AND PENANCE SERVICE Advent is a time of waiting and preparation - a time to Stay awake! and to ready ourselves for the coming of Jesus Christ into the world. As Catholics, this time of preparation often involves participating in the sacrament of reconciliation. The collaborative parishes will gather at Saint Mary s Church this Monday, December 11 at 7:15 p.m. for an Adoration service of prayer and song with an opportunity for individual confession. There will be multiple priests on hand to hear confessions. Come join us for some quiet time during what can often be a very hectic time of the year. Jesus is waiting with open arms to gather you to himself, as the shepherd gathers the lost sheep! Thank you, Margie! After 30 years of service to Saint Mary s, Margie Gallagher, our parish secretary, has retired. Many who were unable to make it to Margie s retirement party have asked if there is a way for them to wish her well and thank her for her service. Those who wish to get a message to Margie may drop off cards or gifts at the collaborative office, and we will be sure they get to her. You can pick them up Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., or during regularly scheduled class times. The Gospel this week tells about John the Baptist, Jesus cousin, who told everyone that Jesus would be coming. He wanted to baptize everyone so that by their repentance they would make a clear path for Jesus to come into their hearts. During this second week of Advent, what is it we need to do to clear a path in our lives to make it easier for us to welcome Christ into our hearts. Think about the hard work that goes into making a path, through the snow or the bushes. Do you have some heavy habits that need to be shoveled out of the way? Do you need to cut back the branches of selfishness or greed to open up that path? Maybe you could use the sacrament of Reconciliation to help you clear your path. Tomorrow, December 11 at 7:15 p.m. we have the opportunity to come to an Advent Penance Service. Perhaps come as a family and celebrate this sacrament together.
