One: We gather in faith, All: trusting that the one who has held little children holds our lives in the heart of God. One: We gather in need, All: seeking the one who longs for justice to grace each and every person in creation. *Hymn No. 624 I Greet Thee Who My Sure Redeemer Art toulon Stanzas 1, 3 and 5

Large-print hymnals and Bibles are available. Please let an usher know if you would like one. Call to Confession Prayer of Confession All: Confession The Reverend Katherine Kerr God be merciful to me, a sinner in the company of sinners. Too often we hide be neath the veil of religion or trust in the good things we do. Seemingly safe in our pews, we look down on those who are not here, thankful that we are not like them. Yet the truth is, we are. We have all sinned. We have all fallen short of the people you call us to be. Cleanse and restore us for the sake of Jesus, our Savior. Amen. One: In silent prayer, let us confess to God the things we choose not to speak aloud. Assurance of Pardon One: Friends, believe the good news. All: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. A time of silence will be kept. *Response (Hymn No. 581) gloria patri Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, amen. Charlie is the son of Meredith and Jonathan Schulz. Clara-Margaret is the daughter of Millicent and Rob O Connor. Sacrament of Baptism (9 a.m.) Hymn No. 188 Sacrament of Baptism Edward Charles Schulz (11 a.m.) Clara-Margaret Mary O Connor jesus loves me Jesus loves me! This I know, for the Bible tells me so. Little ones to him belong. They are weak but he is strong. Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so. *Apostles Creed I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. Prayer for Illumination Proclamation The 11 a.m. service is televised over WSOC-TV, Channel 9, this morning and streamed live at www.firstpres-charlotte.org. *Hymn No. 624 I Greet Thee, Who My Sure Redeemer Art Stanzas 1, 3 and 5 1 I greet thee, who my sure Redeemer art, my only trust and Savior of my heart, who pain didst undergo for my poor sake; I pray thee from our hearts all cares to take. 5 Our hope is in no other save in thee; our faith is built upon thy promise free; Lord, give us peace, and make us calm and sure, that in thy strength we evermore endure. 3 Thou art the life, by which alone we live, and all our substance and our strength receive; sustain us by thy faith and by thy power, and give us strength in every trying hour. *Hymn No. 329 God is Our Refuge and Our Strength 1 God is our refuge and our strength, our ever-present aid, and therefore, though the earth be moved, we will not be afraid; 2 Though hills amid the seas be cast, though foaming waters roar, yea, though the mighty billows shake the mountains on the shore. 3 Where God abides a river flows; that city will rejoice. But nations fear and kingdoms shake before God s thundering voice. 4 Since God is in the midst of it, the city walls shall stand, secure and safe with God s sure help, when trouble is at hand. *Hymn No. 687 1 Our God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come, our shelter from the stormy blast, and our eternal home: 2 Beneath the shadow of thy throne thy saints have dwelt secure; sufficient is thine arm alone, and our defense is sure. 3 Before the hills in order stood, or earth received its frame, from everlasting thou art God, to endless years the same. Our God, Our Help in Ages Past 4 A thousand ages in thy sight are like an evening gone, short as the watch that ends the night before the rising sun. 5 Time, like an ever rolling stream, bears all our years away; they fly forgotten, as a dream dies at the opening day. 6 Our God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come, be thou our guard while life shall last, and our eternal home.
