Pedone has invited all of the Confirmation students to join him on a trip to Wrights Chicken Farm on Friday, June 23 There will be a bus which will leave from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel on Mulberry Street at 5:00 p.m. Permission slips are necessary and are available in the vestibule of the church. Confirmation students will be his guest, but he is asking for a $5.00 deposit which will be returned to the students to hold a space. The reason for the charge is that last year only six students showed up, although many others made reservations. We invite all parents, sponsors, siblings and others to join us at a cost of $20.00 for adults and $15.00 for children 10 and under. FORTNIGHT FOR FREEDOM The sixth annual Fortnight for Freedom will take place in dioceses nationwide from June 21, the vigil of the feast of Saints Thomas More and John Fisher, through July 4, Independence Day. All are invited to join Bishop Robert J. McManus for a special Mass for the Protection of Religious Freedom at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 22 at St. Paul s Cathedral, 19 Chatham St., Worcester. The Mass will be followed by a light reception in the Cenacle with a presentation on this year s theme, Freedom for Mission, by Bishop McManus. YOUTH SUMMER PROGRAM I am in the process of planning my summer program. The Dates will be July 11 - August 3. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. It will be held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Recreation Center. Once again, breakfast and lunch will be included. We have many ideas for activities. We will have workshops including cooking, sewing, sports and dancing. We will also offer a Drama class, that the children will produce and perform a play that will be presented at the end of the summer program. Michaela Pinkham has agreed to run the drama class. Michaela is a student at Quinsigamond Community College, and is very excited to be involved. We are currently looking for volunteers to run a Karate class. These are just a sampling of the events that will be offered this summer. There will be a planning meeting on Tuesday, May 23 at 6:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Suggested donation would be $25.00 per child. Tuesdays will be trip day and the trips will cost $10.00 per child. If you are interested in volunteering as a classroom teacher please contact Joan D Argenis at j_dargenis@yahoo.com We will offer cooking lessons, bookmaking, a drama workshop, sewing classes, etiquette classes, sports skills, dance classes, yoga classes, painting classes. We obvious need help to run these mini workshops. We are looking for volunteers. Perhaps some grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, older siblings, professional and non-professionals. There will also be plenty of time for kids just to be kids. INDEPENDENCE DAY It is a definite the Independence Day celebration will be held at East Park on Friday, June 30 and the CYC will have a table. We definitely need help with face painting, hair streaking, and nail polishing. Any other ideas are welcomed. (Rain Date will be Saturday, July 1) We are also looking for donations of nail polish, nail polish remover, hair coloring spray, face paint, and cotton balls. The bus will leave Mount Carmel parking lot at 8:30 a.m. The cost is $35 per person and the price includes bus and park admission. AMERICAN HERITAGE GIRL TROOP Mt. Carmel s American Heritage Girl Troop MA 0716 is running an informational meeting on Tuesday, June 13 th at 6 pm at the Loreto Center. Parents and girls in grades first through eighth are welcome to come learn more about our Christian Scouting Troop. We promote our faith through badge work, service projects, and a lot of fun! We will meet starting in September on Tuesday evenings from 4:30 to 6:30 at the Loreto Center. NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION The June meeting of the Shrewsbury St. Neighborhood Association will take place on Thursday, June 15, 2017, at the Mt. Carmel Recreation Center, 28 Mulberry St. beginning at 7:00 P.M. The Police Dept., DA's Office, Code Dept., City Manager's Office, other city departments, and elected officials will be present to answer any concerns area residents may have. Updates will be given on any items brought up at previous meetings, including economic development projects in the area. The meeting is open to the public and all area residents are encouraged to attend and raise any issues that need to be addressed by our city and state governments.
