This prayerful celebration features the Franciscan University Chorale and the Schola Cantorum Franciscana, under the direction of Dr. Paul Weber, Franciscan University associate professor of music. During the program, carols with be interspersed with Scripture readings to tell the story leading up to the birth of Christ. The service of Lessons and Carols originated in 1880 at Truro Cathedral in Cornwall, England, when the rector prepared a simple service of readings for Christmas. The Advent version of Lessons and Carols seeks to reclaim the significance of the preparatory season leading up to the Nativity with a combination of hymns and Scripture readings. The event is free and open to the public. REMINDER!!!! CONDOLENCES (CCC 1405) There is no surer pledge or clearer sign of this great hope in the new heavens and new earth in which righteousness dwells, than the Eucharist. Every time this mystery is celebrated, the work of our redemption is carried on and we break the one bread that provides the medicine of immortality, the antidote for death, and the food that makes us live forever in Jesus Christ. With this great hope we pray for our brother and sisters who have died: Fred Bell, 66, November 15 Catherine Miss C Costantini, 64, November 19 Rose Velto Kalinowski, 86, November 20 May they enjoy the eternal banquet the Lord has prepared for them.
