Matthew 1:23 SUMMONED BY GOD As Christmas draws near, Advent s scriptures lure us into a world of dreams, signs, wonders, and the miracle of the virgin birth. Too often we allow the great stories of our faith, the ones that are most familiar, simply to wash over us. Today s Gospel account of the events leading up to the birth of the Lord reads like a present-day soap opera. Yet Joseph s courage, even in the midst of what must have been an incredibly confusing time, provides a model for us. Each week, we are summoned by God to embrace the way of goodness and truth through the proclamation of God s holy word. Like Joseph, we are called to do as the Lord commands us. As we stand at the threshold of Christmas, let us have the courage to be open to whatever it is that the Lord will require of us as we celebrate the miracle of Bethlehem. Breakfast Club The Breakfast Club will be serving breakfast this Sunday, December 18th from 8:15-11:45 am. Please join us for a delicious all you can eat breakfast for only $3.00 and a wonderful opportunity to meet and greet old and new friends. Eucharistic Adoration at MBS Come to Me. MBS has Adoration every Saturday from 9:30 am until 4:00 pm. Although we invite you to drop in whenever you can, we really need adorers to sign up and commit to a specific hour each Saturday. If you can commit to a specific hour or even to a specific 30 minutes, call Rose Stone at 201-677-0761. Adoration and Benediction will not take place on Christmas Eve, Saturday, December 24th. The RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is a formation process for those seeking to become Catholic and for those Catholics wishing to complete their Sacraments of Initiation (Confirmation and First Eucharist). The Most Blessed Sacrament RCIA begins a new formation year in October. Join with others who are interested in learning about Catholic Christianity as we explore who we are, what we believe, how we pray, and how we live our lives as a community of believers. If you are interested in learning more about RCIA at Most Blessed Sacrament, contact Father John Job at 201-891-4200 x 280. Page Five December 18, 2016 As we journey our way through Advent, we are reminded of our Lord's goodness and the countless blessings that we see in each day. As part of our teen's Confirmation process, they are required to do both parish based and off site community service projects. Their productive and eager spirits are a blessing to our parish and our community. Each month we would like to feature a new and different project that our teens have formulated. This months spotlight is on Quinn Burns! Quinn designed and lead a project to construct a garden dedicated to St Francis of Assisi. He also constructed a stone bench in front of the garden to use for prayer and reflection all at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Oakland, where his troop is sponsored. It took four days to complete and approximately 149 work hours! Quinn's gifts and talents will have far reaching effects on all who finds peace and prayer in this beautiful space! Please join me in continuing to pray for the teens of our Confirmation as they approach the Sacrament this spring. Our next Confirmation class will be this coming Sunday from 6-7:15pm in the AMBS Cafeteria. Youth Group will follow from 7:30-9pm in the Youth Room in the basement of the Parish Center. Junior High Notes Giving Many Thanks! I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the volunteers, teachers and aides who were so dedicated to our 7 th and 8 th grade religious education program! You were wonderful and I am very grateful to each and every one of you. Bless you! Thank you to all the parents who came out every Tuesday evening to drop off and pick up their children, without whose support we could not provide the program as successfully as we do! I would also like to thank the students. You were well behaved and respectful, and a joy to get to know. Wishing you all a very Blessed Christmas! God Bless You, Patricia L. Wuensch, Junior High Religious Education Coordinator Grades 1-6 Advent Prayer Gracious God, send us your grace this Advent Season so that we can prepare for your coming. Touch our hearts with longing so that we can better love and serve you and each other. Fill us with the hope that we can be transformed by your Spirit and so help transform the world. Give us the peace of knowing that you came to share our human life and redeem us for the sake of love. We ask these things in the name of Jesus whose kingdom we seek. Amen. ***NEXT CCD CLASSES ARE ON MONDAY, DECEMBER 19 TH AND TUESDAY, DECEMBER 20 TH. Communal and Individual First Penance Children from the second grade and their families participated in the Communal Penance and Individual Penance Celebration.
