Hope for the Future: The Holy Spirt Comes
Holy Spirit in the Old Testament The Lord has filled Bezalel with the Spirit of God, giving him great wisdom, ability, and expertise in all kinds of crafts. He is a master craftsman, expert in working with gold, silver, and bronze. He is skilled in engraving and mounting gemstones and in carving wood. He is a master at every craft. (Exodus 35:31-33)
Holy Spirit in the Old Testament When you arrive at Gibeah of God, where the garrison of the Philistines is located, you will meet a band of prophets coming down from the place of worship. They will be playing a harp, a tambourine, a flute, and a lyre, and they will be prophesying. At that time the Spirit of the Lord will come powerfully upon you, and you will prophesy with them. You will be changed into a different person. (1 Samuel 10:5-6)
Holy Spirit in the Old Testament Now the Spirit of the Lord had left Saul, and the Lord sent a tormenting spirit that filled him with depression and fear.(1 Samuel 16:14)
Holy Spirit in the New Testament In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people.your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. (Acts 2:17-18)
Holy Spirit in the New Testament And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God s possession to the praise of his glory. (Ephesians 1:13-14)
Hope for the Future: The Holy Spirit Comes When he comes (The Holy Spirit*), he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment: about sin, because people do not believe in me; about righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; and about judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned. (John 8-11) *added for clarification
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:8-9)
Now is the time for judgment on this world; now the prince of this world will be driven out. (John 12:31)
I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. (John 16:33)
When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. (Colossians 2:13-15)
The Holy Spirit Comes The Holy Spirit is our Advocate and the Spirit of truth.
The Spirit of Truth & Advocate John 14:15-17 If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. John 14:26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
The Spirit of Truth & Advocate John 15:26 When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father he will testify about me. John 16:13 But when the, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.
His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. (1 Peter 1:3)
