Confirmation Our thoughts and prayers are with Nathalie Burkett, Lisa Robertson. Liz Spink and Debbie Towse, who are each being confirmed today at St Wilfrid s, Wilford. The service is at 6pm; if you are able please do join us in supporting them. Healing Services - 16 th October Our 9am and 10.30am services on Sunday 16 th October are being planned with a theme of healing in mind. Members of the pastoral and mental health teams will be assisting and prayer ministry will be available. In addition to Holy Communion, prayer with the anointing of oil will be offered. Do please keep this Sunday in your prayers and consider whether there is anything in your life you could offer to God for his healing? Buildings Update At the AGM in April I outlined the PCC s plans for modifying the entrance to the church - installing glass doors and removing the internal oak porch, as well as improving the lighting. These have been considered by the Diocesan Advisory Committee and they have deferred a decision, asking the PCC to review the proposals with a view to exploring the possibility of automatic doors for disabled access along with some other suggestions. As a PCC we will look at these proposals to see how we can take things forward. In addition, proposals were put forward for installing LED screens at the front of the church and on some of the pillars and for upgrading our sound system. Happily the DAC could see the merits of these changes and have no initial objections so the proposed changes now enter the second stage of consultation. A notice of the proposed changes has been placed on internal and external noticeboards and if there are no objections the Diocesan Chancellor will make the final decision as to whether the works can go ahead as planned. All being well I am hopeful we could install the sound system and screens in the next month or so, pending final approval. If you have any questions about any of these works please have a chat with me. Thanks, Lee. WWDoP Coffee Morning Saturday 15th October The West Bridgford group of churches support the Women s World Day of Prayer, which is held in early March every year and every autumn holds a coffee morning to support one local and one international charity. St Giles Mission Partners Copies of the Sept-Dec Prayer Diary are available at the back of church please help yourself to one. From the Friends International Prayer Diary: It has been distressing for many of us to hear reports that internationals, including students, have experienced a rise in racist and xenophobic incidents. We pray against this mistreatment and pray that we would all see the value of every human being, all of us bearing the image of God. We pray for international students that are feeling alienated, mistreated or abused. Lord comfort them and help the church to support them in the ways we can. Donations for The Friary Thank you for your generous harvest donations. And please continue to bring your donations into church (box near the front door) or take them directly to the Friary on Musters Road, or to their depot on Ludlow Hill Road. Thank you. The Friary needs Jeans! Don t know what to do with your old jeans? The Friary will happily take them off you - all shapes, states and sizes, both men s and women s. Please go through what you have at home, and bring in any jeans you no longer wear.bring them in! They have regular requests for waist 30/32 but whatever you ve finished with they will put to use. Thank you! Women s World Day of Prayer Coffee Morning at St Giles Raising money for two of our Mission Partners, the Friary and Ha Fusi School. God our Father, whose Son, the light unfailing, has come from heaven to deliver the world from the darkness of ignorance: open the eyes of our understanding that we may know the way of life, and walk in it without stumbling; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
