THE TWENTY-NINTH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME Pastor s Message Dear parishioners, Charity and generosity are not the same thing. Charity is love and you can divide Your Love. Generosity is the ability to multiply. I do not know how to multiply things but I know God does. If we try him he will not let us down. To give generously is to trust God or multiply our treasure right in front of our eyes. When we are generous God is generous through us. This weekend we are making a commitment of our treasure. Please make a sacrifice to God. Please give generously. God cannot be outdone in generosity. We have many needs at the parish because we ve grown faster than our income. We have programming to meet our many needs. We also have a need to give before giving to a need. Let us give a gift of Thanksgiving and let us give generously. God bless! All Soul s Day Envelopes are available at the back of the church and via your envelope packets. Our Food Pantry Is nearly empty! We are in need of non-perishable items such as: Pasta, Rice, Peanut Butter, Tuna or Chicken along with other canned goods to feed our hungry neighbors Please contact the parish office for any questions that you may have: 303-744-6119 Stewardship of Prayer This Week s Mass Intentions: Monday, October 23rd: 6:30 am Randy Karsh 8:00 am Ben Hall Tuesday, October 24th: 6:30 am Paul Ratner 8:00 am Charles, Jenny & Liz Burr Wednesday, October 25th: 6:30 am Rose Ratner 8:00 am Gloria Armstrong Thursday, October 26th: 6:30 am David Ratner 8:00 am Patricia Paull Friday, October 27th: 6:30 am Ralph W. October 22, 2017 Stewardship of Treasure St. Vincent de Paul Parish Stewardship of Treasure Many thanks to all families that returned their commitment cards at Mass today and to all who sent them in the mail. For those who have yet to make a decision, please respond in a manner that reflects your trust, love and gratitude to God. World Mission Sunday The work of the USCCB Committee on Evangelization and Catechesis includes coordinating the U.S. Church s overseas mission efforts, working closely with the Pontifical Mission Societies in the United States, the mission-sending societies of men and women, organization of lay missioners and other organizations. In lieu of a second collection, St. Vincent de Paul Parish will donate $1,000 to support missionary efforts worldwide. Remember, God cannot be outdone in generosity Stewardship of Vocations Please keep in your prayers our SVdP Alumni who are heeding the call to priestly life: David Hall, Jacob Machado, and Frater Clement Hurtgen Traveling Chalice We need good, holy priests to bring us the Eucharist. Therefore the purpose of our program is to pray for priests and priestly vocations every day. The chalice is the sacred cup that the priest uses at Mass in which the Precious Blood of Jesus is consecrated then given to the faithful. We hope through our efforts and God s grace that this spiritual devotion will plant the seed of a priestly vocation in many young men. Vocation Chalice host for the week of October 8th is the: McCormack Family 5

Catholic Events and Resources St. Jerome Mission Fund Raiser Wendesday, October 25th - 11:00 am am to 9:00 pm Several years ago, Kathy McGovern (who authors our scripture column in the bulletin) asked the St. Vincent s parishioners to help her husband Ben Lager build a Parish Center for the use of five parishes in the barrio of Juarez, Mexico. The St. Jerome Mission was built in record time, and with enough left over to attach a state-of-the-art retreat center, which is flourishing with young adults coming for retreats. Ben s project today is simpler: he wants to repair the plumbing and drainage system in the Catholic seminary in Juarez. Our friends at Bonnie Brae Tavern, 740 S University Blvd, Denver, CO 80209, are hosting a fundraiser all day Wednesday, October 25th. Drop in for lunch or dinner---11am-9pm----and Bonnie Brae will donate 15% of your food bill to this outreach of friendship to our Catholic seminarians in Juarez. 6 GABRIEL HOUSE TRAINING FOR VOLUNTEERS Gabriel House will hold a training session for Volunteers on Saturday, October 28, 2017 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at our new Catholic Charities Office, 6240 Smith Road, Denver, CO 80216. Breakfast and lunch will be provided to attendees. If you are interested, please RSVP to: Helen Chmiel 720-799-9245 or HChmiel@ccdenver.org

Catholic Events and Resources (continued) October 22, 2017 Zagreb, Croatia Twenty Ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time Have you ever had a conversation with someone you thought you knew, discovered you didn t know them at all, and ended up becoming good friends? Have you ever walked into the wrong classroom and ended up signing up for that class instead of the one you originally intended? There are stories to go with each of these situations. They are true accounts of life-changing accidents, shared with me by students through the years. King Cyrus of Persia, circa 538 B.C., could relate. Here s a guy who knew nothing about the Jews or their extraordinary history. He had just smashed the great Babylonian army and driven out their kings. This world conqueror did a quick census of the population of the land he had just taken over and saw that he had a large number of Jewish communities that had been marched out of Judah during the terrifying siege of King Nebuchadnezzar fifty years earlier. Almost as an afterthought he said to them, Go home now. Take all the treasures which were stolen from your Temple when Nebuchadnezzar came through. Rebuild your lives and your Temple. And pray for the Royal Family and for me. That s how this Gentile king came to be called God s anointed by the prophet Isaiah. He accidentally stumbled into salvation history and changed it forever. How could he know he was sending God s Chosen People back to rebuild a land that would, in time, be the home of Jesus of Nazareth? How, indeed, can you know that God is working through you to bring good? Invite God to use you as a vessel. Then prepare to take your place in history next to the Great King Cyrus.
