We welcome all new parishioners to make an appointment to register at the Parish Office and share their gifts within the community. A Late Lent This year we begin Lent on Wednesday, March 1. Easter Sunday will be celebrated on April 16 almost three weeks later than last year. Since the year 325, the date for Easter is set by the Church to coincide with the first Sunday after the first full moon on or after the Spring equinox (March 21). Since Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, it is a good idea to have your game plan for Lent ready in your mind so that these 40 days can be a special time. I recently read that a good question to ask ourselves is What does God want to give me this year? When we first experienced Lent, we often gave up things like candy. For a child this often was a hard sacrifice. As adults it is often more difficult to decide what special thing to do, to make Lent a special season to get our attention and to prepare us for the celebration of Easter. continued on page 2

PAGE TWO ST. BEDE THE VENERABLE February 26, 2017 continued from page 1 For many of us, the choice may not be to give up something but rather to add something to our daily lives. Maybe we set aside a time for extra prayer, or we may choose to increase our giving to the poor by choosing to not go out to dinner one night a week and to give that amount to the poor. Our whole desire for Lent is that we choose a way to grow closer to our Lord and prepare ourselves to celebrate the paschal mystery with minds and hearts renewed. (First preface of Lent) Please take some time to look over the Lenten activities planned here at St. Bede s. Make this late Lent the best Lent ever! Sincerely in Christ, Karen J. Roman Pastoral Associate Ash Wednesday Start Lent off right by coming for Mass and the distribution of ashes, March 1st.
