The UUCOD WEEKLY March 13, 2016 We are located at 72425 Via Vail, off of Dinah Shore, between Bob Hope and Monterey Avenues. From Dinah Shore, turn south onto Key Largo, go forward 1 block, the church is on S/W corner. Our website is uucod.org: go to Calendar to view current events and upcoming fun. We always have a chair for you! Sunday Services -- 10:00 AM March 13 th The Big Heart of Universalism These are times of great tension and conflict in America. We are in the midst of what seems to be the endless election cycle that is exposing the fear and judgment of differentness in America. This is a time where we need the big heart of Universalism. Universalism allows us to focus on the oneness of humanity and worth of all beings more than separateness and differentness. Children s Religious Education will be available. Worship Leader: Sarah Gonzales Worship Associate: Joni Padduck March 20 th Spiritual Poverty In our country we tend to talk about wealth or poverty in terms of physical things: money, possessions but generally do not talk about how spiritually rich or poor we are. This Sunday we will look at the concept of wealth or poverty of the spirit and consider how all of us and our world might benefit if we put more emphasis on the wealth of our souls rather than how much money and stuff we can accumulate. Children s Religious Education will be available. Worship Leader: Rev. Suzanne Marsh Worship Associate: Claire Flannery The UUCOD Weekly deadline is 11am Wednesdays Administrator Office Hours: Wednesday and Friday 11-4 Contact us: e-mail admin@uucod.org or 760-321-0694

Will Accept Anything!!! Please Help!!!! Some of us have given water. Some of us have given food. Some of us have even given money. But most of us are still confused on the best way to help them. Well, the Social Justice Committee would like to offer one way: Personal Care Kits Personal Care Kits are gallon-size bags filled with 2-in-1shampoo & conditioner, soap, a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant and all the other stuff people need to take care of their personal hygiene. The Social Justice Committee wants to assemble and give 40 Personal Care Kits to Well in The Desert, a nonprofit organization in Palm Springs that provides services to people who are homeless. But we can t do it alone. We need you. Beginning this Sunday, March 13th and running until April 10th, Susan Hannon, Marilyn Cavanaugh and other members of the Social Justice Committee will be on the patio after services with the Personal Care Kits and the list of items that go inside them. Stop by, check out the kits and sign up to bring in items on the list. If you have any questions, don t hesitate to call Denise Janssen Eager at (760) 567-4586. Help us help people who cannot even afford to wash their face. It s that simple.

New Chalice Circles are forming! Also known as "covenant groups and small group ministry circles, Small Group Ministry is a vital part of many Unitarian Universalist (UU) congregations. Groups of 8-12 people meet regularly, usually monthly, to reflect on and discuss significant life topics. Small groups are great places to get to know other people and to get to know yourself. Over time, participants build deep connections with one another, with the congregation and with the sacred. Whether the topic is good and evil, mindful living or letting go, the conversation is respectful and caring and leads to greater understanding. In each session, facilitated by a member of the congregation, all participants have opportunity to share their perspectives, tell their stories, and practice deep listening. They are a great way to get to know other members of our Beloved Community. If you want to know more about them or think you might want to join or host one, contact Rev. Suzanne at minister@uucod.
